US mail contractors

I serious doubt H&W Pay has went down much lately, but I do know it's a new contractor on the run.

 

It's not that it goes down. It's different for different parts of the country.

 

I realize that. The new job I am talking about, the mail contractor is going to pay $4.70 or .41 less an hour for H&W up to the 40 hours out of the same location and I know of 2 companies that currently pay $5.11. I seriously doubt H&W has went down much if at all.

 

Where do the runs originate? It doesn't matter if two guys at your location get different rates if they're coming from two very different locations. A run originating in the middle of the country is likely going to have a lower determination than one that comes from New York City.

 

Attached is the WD for 2015, latest copy I have. WDs are based on where the haul originates. You may meetup with a guy at the same place but his run possibly originates somewhere else where the rate is higher than where your run originates.

 

I understand that but all 3 runs start at same place, so shouldn't be any difference.

 

Don't know the answer to your question,you speak of guys you know.But for me when I actually did it myself I worked less hours then I was paid.My run paid 8 hours and I could do it in 6.5 hours .But like I said earlier it was a lot of years back don't have any idea how they do it now.have no idea how or why you feel you should be paid for time your off duty,does any one or occupation pay you to be off duty?dont think 12 hours is a layover you have to take 10 we always called those runs a lay down run not a layover.Layovers were usually not something that was planned when you took the run a lay down you knew about when you took the run

 

daf seems to think a driver that drives 11 hours, lays over in a motel for 10 hours and drives back home 11 hours should get paid 32 hours. LOL<Good luck!!

 

The H&W pay is determined by the cotract. If the run goes between Nashville and New York it could have a contract route number associated with either city. New York pays more. So people running from the same post office could have different H&W pay.
As far as the 401k I won't work for a contractor that forces 401k. In my opinion it is not the spirit of the postal contract to force that upon employees.

 

It has nothing to do with spirit. It's a Dept of Labor issue. That money is specifically intended for Health and/or welfare benefits. Thus why it's called that. It is pretax money. If a contractor CHOOSES to pay it on a paycheck it is then taxed like normal income. Most contractors choose to not pay out that extra tax money as it's not figured into a contract bid. The DOL does not screw around on this issue. Get caught doing it wrong and it will cost a LOT of money for the contractor.
