I've been curious lately about mail hauling or even becoming a USPS driver since the main Hub in Portland is literally a 5 minute walk from my apartment. Brugh is the contractor I see in and out of there all the time. Anybody know about them?

I used to work for Matheson. Not gonna say much there. I did hear they gave most of their driver sin Sacto 60 days notice recently, but maybe I am mistaken.
This job is all attention to detail. Don't ASSUME (which too many drivers do). Do your job, do it right. Don't stop to stuff your face at the Cracker Barrel as Mail has to move. And w/ a computer, they KNOW where (and when) you're screwing off.
Last, there is SO MUCH mis-information about mail hauling. There is NO single rate -- they are all based on the area the contract is LET OUT OF, so it differs. The lowest priced runs are in like Florida. NY and Chicago -- they pay the highest wages. Wages are set by the P.O. for that area. Contractors bid a price BY THE MILE and have to also bid fuel. Lately, the PO has been converting a lot of their trips to "one-way" routes which makes things much harder. They are consolidating... And yes, they have money problems. Why? Because they are made to pay $5 BILLION dollars a year for the pensions of FUTURE workers. No other business has to do this and it is killing them. I heard Barry was talking of giving it back, but do you really see the government giving back $80 BILLION dollars????
Anyway, guys, it's a good gig for some. Many cannot do it. They'll say I'm a liar or whatever, but about 1 in 10 drivers can do it. Some cannot grasp the concept that it HAS to go. Some want to stop and eat or stop at every truck stop (while leaving the ###### truck idling) and just don't get that they HAVE to do a pre-trip and a post-trip. That they need attention to detail when doing their jobs.
Wow, listen to me preach, but if you do those things and are on time, don't wreck trucks or get tickets, you'll find a good berth. Look around, ask questions. HAVE A CLEAN RECORD and CSA. Very important now.
Done for tonite. We'll see which freight hauler or 6 month expert will tell me I'm wrong and a liar. -
I'm in NY, north of Albany. Does anyone know of mail carriers that operate in this region?

To the poster who mentioned the 60-day notice of termination from Matheson, that's how Postal contracts work now, they have a 60-day out clause now, for either party.WickedGoat Thanks this.
