I have a US company tractor trailer going into Toronto next week. Someone in our organization has suggested that we need special Canadian insurance. Has anyone ever heard of this? Paul

I was always under the impression that the US/Canadian authorities recognized each other's insurance. It was Mexico that didn't play ball with either one.

    From the State Department:

If interested, the whole page is available at http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1082.html

I don't know the specifics regarding commercial vehicles, but I can't see it being a huge problem.

You don't need "special" (Canada-specific) insurance, but you will want to confirm that you have coverage that allows you to travel to Canada. I know that coverage for me to go to the U.S. costs more than if I don't. Likewise, if I lived outside the major metropolitan area where I now live, my insurance would cost less. Check with your agent/insurer/underwriter.
