He comes home once a month. And your lonely. That's terrible. You and every single woman like you should write your representitves about this. Start screaming and crying like MADD did. Look at the homosexual's, they even have rights to get married or what ever. Get the regulations for drivers changed to meet the same employment expectations as other jobs. :yes2557:

Drivers should get 2 days off for every 40 hrs worked at the very least!

actually I found USA wasnt that bad. On the regional runs co. driver was pulling in 500 wk. only problem was dispatch kept sending me to LA. for time off every wk. end they forgot where I lived (or dispatcher just didnt listen) but got it straight.

You think that $500 wk was not that bad?

Celadon is not even close to being driver freindly. Just because they pay you that little extra for every 30,000 miles you run doesnt mean they are in it for your best interests.
You ought to research this board more, there is a whole thread dedicated to Celadon.
Living where you do, you probally will be out with Celadon forever. They have very few terminals around the US. All orientations are done here in Indianapolis at their main terminal and unless you live in the midwest or SE, have fun getting home often.

TMC has a training program, and they take newbies fresh out of school, so I dont see why they wouldnt take a 1 year. Dont tell him to go to Celadon. I drove at Celadon for a year. The company is basically geared toward O/O's, they are NOT driver freindly by any stretch of the immagination. Think Swift or JB with crappier equipment and you have Celadon.

Maybe LTL is the way to go for you? I spent 5 years over the road and I have been driving LTL for 2.5 years right now. I bring home around a $1000 a week and Im home everyday and weekends. You may have to take a little more BS and actually do some work. But the pay is better and when you are done for the day you can go home instead of to a truck stop. Once you do this for a while, beleive me, you wont be wanting to go back OTR anytime soon. I'm not saying that I will never go back to OTR, but for the foreseeable future I wont be. If you dont mind pulling doubles and keeping your hazmat endorsements up, this might be the way for you to go.

well, then I would watch closely what I was doing. SInce you are chasing your hours every week without a 34 hr restart. The MOST hours that you can work per day and be legal and not have a restart is 8.75. These companies CAN get you home if they want to, but not enough drivers push the issue, so they dont try to. I have only been out 5 weekends in 7 years of driving, and that is because I wanted to stay out, not because the company said I had to.
If I am to be out from Fri until Mon, then you had better have at least a 1000 miles on that, or you can get me home--I dont play that game. Once you do it at most companies, you are pretty much expected to do it when confronted with the same situation again.

How doable is LTL for someone out of driving school? Is it mandatory that you drive for a major OTR co (no matter how bad they are) if you entertain any thoughts of actually getting a job?

Our company requires only 6 months of experience and a driving school, so yes it is do-able with limited experience. We have several drivers who have very limited experience and several who have 20+ years. We are not one of the "bigs" but we compete very well with them, and have plenty of business nationwide and in Canada.

when it comes to companies saying you will be making 38cpm and you actually only make 34cpm, I think you will find that happens with a lot of companies. Some companies are honest with you about it and some aren't. It is called Per-Diem. In todays day and age we need to be happy making any kind of money. I understand that there is not a single company out there that is perfect, but I get upset that people just want to complain about them. If you are not happy with a company just leave. I have noticed on here that many people will not be pleased anywhere they go. Be happy you have a job and can pay your bills, make the most out of all you do. I would be upset if I drove hundreds of miles for no reason but crap happens and you'll make it up.

This is one of the stupidest posts I have seen on this board so far. If the way trucking companies openly and proudly screw hard working people out of their wages impresses you then you should be aiming your efforts toward other industry as well. How about you start a campaign for people who work in chicken processing plants, garages, offices or ANY occupation that pays per the hour.. then try telling them you think they should come to work at 7am but their pay shouldn't and wont start untill 10am....I mean if its good for trucking to screw their employees it HAS to be good for all industry to screw them. You must be the chucklehead who lives in the Harrisionburg area that stays on the radio cursing trucks and drivers. Its sad to sign up and have one post and it consist of negativity toward our industry. One word for you......TROLL.

I never said I agree with what they do, however werner openly tells people this apon getting a job with them. That is why I am not working for them. I was simply telling the people that this happens and if they were the only company hiring then I would still take the job and be happy with it. This was not a post to start a battle with anyone, however it happens. Look it up!

first of all you sound like an #####. Secondly I do not live in the harrisonburg area. Secondly I love trucking and I am not speaking bad about it at all. You need to do some research on Per-Diem with the over the road companies. Do your research before you speak ####### and lastly I just joined this yesterday, maybe I should have waiting a few weeks before posting a reply? do your research of this topic and then maybe You can the epitomy of this industry until then, your friend, ~the TROLL
