my hubby does a dedicated dollar tree acct in the NE-based out of P.A.
He stated in Feb finished training mid March. I would assume dollar tree and dollar general are pretty similar but I'm not sure.
He has been home almost every weekend since he started. He normally runs 4-5days and does about 2-3 unloads/week. An unload is any where from 1 store to 5. Mostly it's 2-3. Miles are not so high-I would say he averages 1000 or so /week but the unload pay makes up for that. Plus he gets some backhauls on the way back to the DC. It can be tough d/t the unload but so far he has no major complaints than any other driver would have. The people he works with are pretty decent and try to work with his time off requests etc. Hope that helps. No real complaints with USX either especially after reading some of the comments about the other companies.
Hope that helps and GOOD LUCK!! -
thanks alot for that info im starting tomorrow im hopeing for the best

My husband has worked this account out of Ohio for a year now. The work is hard, but he does it at 50 years old. The hardest is probably winters...pushing heavy uneven carts across ice. Whoever loads the roll-tainers is quite the comedian as they stack HEAVY boxes on TOP of the carts. Those tend to come down on your face, head or foot when you least expect it.
The miles are ok....they are not always consistent. Some weeks we gross $1300 per week...some weeks $600 per week....usually more like $1000 per week gross though. The pay for unload is a bit weak and pay per stops is low. I have heard both used to be higher. But when the contract was renegotiated, those amount went down to $50/trailer unload and $20/stop. Backhauls supposedly pay $40 ...I think.
Dispatchers are ok here....a couple a a bit rude...they are women. Go figure. They are SLOW to perform maintenance on their trucks. They are notoroius for pushing drivers beyond the legal limits. BUT.....they are going to paperless logs soon. So, that will solve that.
Good luck.Civilservant Thanks this. -

First off- welcome to the Trucker's Report!! Great info and great people here.
did you see my post above about Dollar tree? BTW spouse is 51. Hmm pay is pretty different for unload for what my husband gets per trailer? He unloads right onto the dock via conveyer rollers. Yes I agree the dumba$$es who load same thing heavy stuff on top of bread...duh. Miles not so hot cuz he may do 3 unloads one city. Pay over all is getting more steady but he is only really doing 4 days (out Monday unload Tues generally home Friday after picking up Tue's load) If he did the 5th day pay would be better- but for<6 months it's okay take home. FM is good a few crabby dispatchers. He uses Elog and paper as back up.
Thanks for info interesting to see the difference in the same company. -
I'm starting the dollar general Werner acct out of Fulton mo. Realistically what should I expect to gross?

to be fair to camdizzle14 he did say hes starting to work for werner. does it make sence for him to be lost, entering the exit (backassward) in the parking lots, camping on the fuel island. he is just lost.....
