259 has 1 major hill with a few switchbacks. It's ok for trucks and less traffic but not recommended unless you're going to Poteau or Broken Bow. It's extra miles is not worth the reduced traffic

As an aside. US 259 runs up through the "Winding Stair Mountains" which is where much of the storyline setting is in the movie "True Grit" with Marshal Rooster Cogburn.

I sneak thru the trees pretty often down 71 from Ft. Smith to Texarkana. It's a pretty good road all in all. Sure beats running all the way around thru little rock. Right around DeQueen your gonna see a diesel bear or two a almost guaranteed. That's bout the most excitement of the whole trip
