Think of the GPS like your cruise control. You dont just set it and asume its going to keep you at the correct speed. However you dont totaly disreguard your cruise control either becouse it does not keep you at the perfect speed. To say to only use your GPS for emergencies only is like saying only use your cruise control for emergencies.
There is no need to demonize the GPS. It does way more good then harm. Sure in some cases it will advise the wrong road, or send you to the wrong place. But that is why there is a driver behind the wheel, and not a computer. So we can correct these mistakes.
And I agree a good ole rand mcnally should be in every truck. But ever since I put the GPS in. it has made life so much easier. No longer do I have to look at hand writen directions. of turn left at the 5th light (hmm was that flashing yellow considered a light, Or was the interesection that I turned on considered a light). No more turn right on washington street, (hmm how far down the road is washington street, ahh crap there it is just past it).
And I agree the GPS should not be the only tool. Being a bedbugger, I get to go into some crazy apartment complexes, and tight residentual area's. I love Google earth. Its so nice being able to see if I can get into the place before I even get there. Rather then showing up only to figure out my truck is not going to make that turn. and then have to figure out how to get out of the place.
Use your GPS.......
