Hey one piece of advice or more of a request to new drivers is to recognize your governed speed and keep an eye on your mirrors. When you see a faster truck is struggling to get past, just roll out of the cruise to help them move on and then get back up to speed.

Its just a brief pause that won't impact your day, but will help with congestion. Its not your fault your company has you governed at 63 mph or 65 mph, do us all a solid and help people keep moving along the road...

I do that all the time.

My new truck has passmart and it has been so nice. Usually the daytimer uses up most of it, not that I need it as badly as he does.. but if you are teaming on a newer truck that has that feature, leave your overnight guy about 10 minutes or so. Not 30 seconds. lol

Why is it the truck in the right lane's responsibility to slow down for Johnny Dip#### who can't figure out that you should step on the go pedal when passing?

Either pass or stay in the right lane (where you belong).

Is there any allowances legally for passing in the left lane at a faster speed?

I made a profile on a police officer forum so I can ask them questions like these but I can't get signed in anymore.

So like if the speed limit is 65 can I speed up to 70 to pass a truck going 62 at a reasonable speed and not impede traffic.

I personal favorite lately are the day cabs just chilling in the middle lane getting passed on both sides, until they need to exit and jump 2-3 lanes to their exit at last second.

Because Joe Dip #### in the right lane sometimes slows down for no reason, then decides to speed up again when a truck is trying to pass. I can understand if we're climbing or there's a dumb 4 wheeler in front, but driving that inconsistent on flat ground with nobody in front? Nah #### you I'll stay in the left lane as long as it takes to pass.

Thankfully it rarely happens with 18 wheelers but I see it often with 4 wheelers

Because Johnny D thinks he must run at max speed at all times even if means 'struggling' to pass.

That said I do my best to keep space around me at all times and will gladly easy off to get that type away from me.

In Ohio there are no allowances for going over the posted limit to pass another vehicle.
Every department is different in regards to what the amount over is allowed before issuing a ticket and officers have some discretion.
I started back in the 80's and the city department I worked for gave 15 mph over before giving tickets. Also we would not issue tickets in areas that were not clearly posted what the speed limits were. Besides the cost of the tickets you also had increase in insurance cost so it was not just the ticket cost involved.
Early in my career management would look at our total activity not just traffic. My last two chiefs prior to retirement only looked at criminal arrest and traffic tickets for your activity. Did not matter how busy you were on other calls or follow ups on complaints.
I was called into the chiefs office because my activity was down one month. I had two weeks vacation, worked one week and was in the hospital for the fourth week. That didn't matter. So the young troops were stricter than the old ones.
It used to be that a speeding ticket in your private car would not go on your CDL. When that changed I would occasionally give CDL holders a break for speeding in their own cars so it would not affect their CDL.

Back in 1994 I am doing 55 and dip is doing 57 taking 10 miles to get by me in Ohio's two lane interstates. Stacking traffic for miles. This was back when companies started to put governors on trucks because they could.

    55, 61 etc is too #### slow.
