This is one of those threads about conversations that you wouldn’t think that ADULTS would have. And they will continue to have until the legislatures get involved.

There is an oh-so-simple solution to big truck drag racing: If caught drag racing for over a mile by a traffic cop, the LOSER receives a $1000 fine. Regardless of what lane he was in. That way, if Billy Bigrig jumps out to pass and can’t pull it off in a reasonable distance, he gets fined. And if Dipwad Dennis cant share the road loses, he gets fined. I will guarantee you that the drag racing would virtually disappear.

 

I agree. I do think that the main problem is the highway infrastructure is VERY outdated. Most all the 2 digit numbered interstates need to be at least 3 lanes. This would help things greatly.

 

That doesn't work. Not in the great state of Pennsyltucky anyway. Everyone just putzes along in the center lane. Left lane is no trucks, and the right lane is busy with tree trimmers and Penndot idiots going to work.

I really think speed limits are absurd. I say let us go as fast as we want. Let God sort out those that can't keep up

 

I did not say it was perfect. I said it would help. A third lane is really needed on I 81 in Virginia. The total volume of traffic on the interstates has increased. The primary cure is a bit more courtesy on the roads, but that will never happen.

 

Even on a 3 lane, the same problem exists, except Dipwad Dennis is now riding in the middle lane.

You could have all interstates 5 lanes wide, rural traffic, and still have the exact same issues. Dipwad will be a dipwad regardless of where he drives.

 

I guess you can always use the ditch for your out.

 

Patience needs to be exhitibed on both ends.
It’s typically trucks that go 1 mph of each other generally “struggling” to get around somebody.
Mph means miles per HOUR. If youre struggling to get around someone chances are you’re going 1-2 mpH faster in a whole 30 mins of maintaining the speed you’ve gained maybe 30 seconds at the max. Its not that important to block the 2nd lane on a 2 lane highway. Sure driver A can slow down but where is driver b really going at 1-2 mph faster? Especially when they’re exit is coming up in 10 miles.

 

So... if you're faster, why do you need me to slow down?

 

My view on it is not so much the responsibility but if I'm in the slow lane and the guy trying to pass me for the last half hour has created a herd of mad cars behind him... I will back off and let him in. Nothing smarter than getting those mad (read potentially dangerous and stupid) cars as far away from me as possible. IMO.

 

The only problem with letting somebody monkey along ur left side is u lose that out if u need to get in left lane. Say its a police up ahead with lights or a broke truck onshoulder, somebody merging etc etc, u are gonna end up hitting the break in the situation and with traffic backed up behind the monkey u will have no where to go which could make a bad situation much worse . It much easier to let off cruise/pedal and let the monkey go down the road no matter how much it hurts ur pride or ego
