2009 and newer should be ok for CA for a couple more years. Remember, you'll also need to start looking for some sort of aero enhancement on the trailer too. Skirts, underpan or the tail.

The Reefer unit and the trailer both have special requirements now and are treated differently.

Check your cross members really well too. Especially around the rear suspension, the dolley's and the 5th wheel plate.

there is no way to tell if a micro or compressor is going bad. just look for leaks around heads and manifolds, as well as vibrasorbers. mix up dawn in a squirt bottle and spray it all down and watch for bubbles ! pre trips only check that every think is operating correctly at that time and thats it ! listen for odd noises and vibrations, neither one is good !

Great forum, I am also currently looking at a used 2004 great dane with a carrier unit hours say 16,000 hours for $14,900? I'm going to go give it a hard look through and take it to the local carrier dealer to just make sure. But, it sounds like those hours are not horrible and there should be life left in the unit? I'm in the Cincinnati area and will run mostly south and west to the Rockies for a local customer. No Cali

Uhhh, yeah, that's the point. Pre trip the unit to check that everything is operating correctly before you haul a perishable load. A pretrip will also cycle the functions of the microprocessor, and uncover problems with the board. :biggrin_25517:

You could do better. Not saying this one isn't a good trailer, but you could probably find comparable models with less unit hours. That's 16000 run hours, or 16000 switch hours? Switch hours that isn't tooooo bad considering the run hours will be probably about half that or a little more depending on what it hauled mostly.

I haven't laid eyes on the unit yet, I would assume those are run hours. I am going to take a ladder with me and crawl all over the unit. The dealer had 60 of these only four are left, even he said he's thinking of wholesaling those remaining due to how rough they are. He has some other 02' and 03' units coming in I may look at.
