Oh good point! So, let me ask this? You pre-trip, everything looks good, a DOT light goes out and DOT notices at some point on the road. Is DOT fair about letting you change that on the spot to avoid the fine or are they fairly firm about writing the ticket? I'm just throwing out a hypothetical for consideration... not trying to split hairs here... What do you think?

Nice! I can see that being useful.

Having grounding issues with a clearance light on your trailer? Try a star (external tooth) washer between the light, ground terminal and the trailer (for lights that require screws for mounting). I carry a box of these that you can buy at any hardware store:

I also have some of these Mr Grip Screw Hole Repair kits in my truck, too. Aluminum foil works OK, too.

Only thing I'd add is to be careful about "cheap" tools. Not that you need a top-o'-the-line Super-Deluxe Platinum Edition version, but get something decent, because cheap tools WILL bite you in the behind....or on the hand. Invest a few extra bucks and get something of good quality.
Some things are worth scrimping on. Tools ain't one of 'em.
Good luck! -
I like Craftsman tools, myself....not "top-of-the-line" by any means, but seem to hold up to regular abuse...and when they don't, a Sears store is never very far away...pull up, walk inside & they'll swap out the damaged tool for a new one no questions asked. I've heard Kobalt (Lowe's) and Husky (Home Depot) are the same way, but I've never had the opportunity to test them out.
As for other tools, if a tool brand is the "common" name for a tool, I'll usually buy that brand...Vice Grips, Channel Locks, Crescent Wrench, etc. I get a kick out of working with a smart-### "helper" that when I ask for the Crescent Wrench, he says "Don't you mean the adjustable wrench?"
"No, dumb@$$...I meant what I said. Hand me the Crescent Wrench....made by Crescent Tool Co."
Besides, I've found in most cases, the "original" is usually the best. For example, I've used other brands of locking jaw pliers, but they never seem to work quite the same as a true pair of Vice Grips. -
Exactly my feelings. I've made the mistake of purchasing the odd cheapo wrench, and paid the price...but not in money.

a good set of heavy duty bolt cutters..
JB Weld comes in handy at times also..
contact cleaner to spray on wire terminals that are corroded..
good LED mag light or rechargable hand held spot light.. -
Agreed! All my collection is Craftsman for the aforementioned reasons of warranty. However, I have been trying the Home depot (Husky) tools. They are hit and miss. Some are ok, most are junk.48Packard Thanks this.
