Nice idea! Directional WiFi, but we are OTR.
We use 4 g verizon broadband in the truck. Its faster than most truck stop wifi, good enough to watch hulu and netflix. 50 bucks for 5 gig per month. sometimes we have to buy wifi from pilot/flying j 30 days for 19.95. not bad either.
at home we used a Belkin gateway/router as a hot spot.

Does your laptop have a WiFi build in? If so, just turn it on.

Denny's and McD. are some that offer free WiFi, but the speed will not be too great...

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Nothing is secure.

Truckstops will charge. But, usually the Denny's or McD is free, but slow.

    Thanks,
    mark
