Of what I’ve messed with, I’ve found that off road dump trucks are a pain to get centered. Usually there was something in the hood I could eyeball against the back the trailer, which helped some.

Looks like I certainly got into the wrong racket.
spyder7723, REO6205 and stwik Thank this. -
Pans and off road trucks are a pain,.. imagine a novice trying to load one with a flat tire or one that doesnt run and asked to use other machines to get it on the trailer. Been there,.. done that.
There will be excavators that even with outriggers,.. barely has 4 inches of track on the trailer beams. One wrong slip and the out riggers will be destroyed. Or an excavator with the boom and stick removed,.. but the counter weight is still on. The machine must be reversed onto the trailer or risk it flipping back trying to come forward up onto the deck.
So many different and dangerous scenarios that he is simply not prepared for.
I picked this up at the port in Baltimore. I just dont see a novice getting this done.
But hey,.. its not what you know,.. but who you know he says.

You loaded that without a spotter?

So many of you think no one can do your job. But guess what you to had to learn the same way he will. We all have to learn some how and it start's on your first day and end's when the next guy takes over.

At who's expense?
I started hauling equipment in 1980, but never by myself for quite some time.
Hopefully they have a good training program for him; without it is going to cost somebody a lot of money, and perhaps a life.spyder7723, snowman_w900, Lepton1 and 7 others Thank this. -
Good god man, how heavy was your outfit? A fully dressed 345DL is only around 105,000. Or was that scale ticket from another load?
-
That should be a good job for a beam trailer.Hurst Thanks this.

Well, machinery that doesn’t quite need a permit is a good way for a newer driver to learn this side of the job, such as backhoes and track loaders.spyder7723, stwik and Lepton1 Thank this.

Just me. Port of Baltimore. I had a serial#. They pointed in the general area it should be. Verify serial... then walk it back to the truck.
Had to back it on because with the counter weight, I didn't trust it not to flip on its tail trying to walk it forward.
It's why I posted those pics. Not a complicated machine to operate. But you need to know what the F your doing to load it.
HurstLepton1, Airborne, cke and 1 other person Thank this.
