Occasionally I do this as well but, most of the time before I put my tarp straps into service I crimp the end that the bungee is on so the S-hooks don't fall off and worse yet they don't poke a hole in the tarp.
Using rubber rope when tarping, anyone?

Rubber rope is the primary tie down for tarps and bungees secondary around these parts.

I've yet to get regular rope to stretch, especially twice it's orginal lenght. To me that's part of the problem with bugees, they just don't stretch far without creating a lot of force.

I like shock cord because there is less friction on it between the D-rings and the hooks. Rubber dragging on a D-ring will rip it off the tarp in short order pulled as tight as I pull my shock cord.

Do you still use S hooks on the very ends, or do you tie it to the bed. Just wondering how you secure it to the deck I guess.

I like regular rope. If you know 2 knots, it works as well as anything and is cheap. Bowline and truckers slip knot. I have bungees and 2 inch ratchet straps too. But rope rocks.
Jimmbuds Thanks this.
