Well I have been to every state except Hawaii with my truck, have a gps on the windshield near center, have a camera monitor next to it another camera monitor in the cup holder next to that a camera top center, and a data center screen on the upper left window, have not even had anyone take a second glance at them.
edit Also have that darn elog unit up there. -

(e) Prohibition on obstructions to the driver's field of view(1) Devices mounted at the top of the windshield. Antennas, transponders, and similar devices must not be mounted more than 152 mm (6 inches) below the upper edge of the windshield. These devices must be located outside the area swept by the windshield wipers, and outside the driver's sight lines to the road and highway signs and signals. -

can you get a ticket for having both ?
I don't run with either but I would not run a radar detector using a windshield mount. That would be too obvious.A driver should only run a detector that is mounted using velcro on the dash for quick removal unless of course the detector is truly undetectable. It should never be mounted on the windshield regardless.

my gps is mounted on the passengers side windshield about 8" from the bottom, high enough that it's not affected by the defroster in the winter. Few weeks back had a Ne. State Trooper question it during a roadside inspection. While Ne. doesn't have a specific reg. about it, he thought it blocked my line of sight. No ticket, just a hmmm moment.

now, with the introduction of these new gadgets, you dont hear of anyone getting tickets for obstructed view
even cops have more stuff hanging in their cars that NASA -
You wont have any problems with gps mounted on the dash/windshield on the east coast/Northeast.
DOT isn't anywhere near as rabid as they are down south and out west. -

but out west, those DOT are on steroids (include michigan in that) -
Somewhat off topic but I have a crack on my windshield about 4" above the dash and not above my steering wheel. Its about a foot long and goes vertical with my dash but does not cross my line of sight. I will get a replacement as soon as I get home since I have a guy who charges me $150 cash for a new one but just worried about this CSA blitz coming up. Will be heading Westbound on I-40 from TX to CA with a hazmat load this week.
