Well I just called a scale house here in CA. They told me that technically I'm legal hauling personal household goods if they are my own property, and that I should create a BOL just to be safe. But, he did say that he can't speak for the other states that I'll pass through, and some may want to inspect the goods if they find out what I'm hauling. He said what I'm doing is unusual, but not unheard of.
PoleCrusher and ZVar Thank this. -
If I were you, I'd run it as personal...not business at all. If DOT asked while crossing a scale house it would be all my goods on a personal move. No BOL...nothing. I wouldn't even log it. It's off duty driving. BOL implies business. Keep track of your IFTA mileage though.

I'd do this Steve ^^^^. I-40 all the way across to Asheville, be mindful of the bridge shutdown in Memphis. As long as you aren't going through at peak rush hour times it's not bad, or hasn't been for me the 3-4 times I've been through. At Asheville cut south on 26 straight down to Greeneville. The section between Knoxville and Asheville will slow you down (50 mph truck speed, right lane only). Locals call it the gorge, because it's a gorge. One of the prettiest sections of interstate in the country, especially after a rain when the falls are all a'fallin. It's 70 the whole way except the gorge and the bigger cities IIRC.
I would strongly caution you to avoid Atlanta, any time, all the time, forever and ever, unless you can go through in the middle of the night.not4hire, Trucker61016, SteveScott and 1 other person Thank this. -
Ok, so I'm going to avoid Atlanta. Sounds like good advice.

Myself and many others who use a class 8 truck to tow our huge RV trailers have gone through the procedure to "CONVERT" our trucks into "Motor Homes". My Pete, is a legaly registered, titled Motor Home, in my home State of Washington.
