Backing in spots around vehicles is very challenging. I have to say thats probably the hardest ones because they are so small and they can be anywhere. But when you backed there and blind sided, did he let you do it, or did he help you. I know you can always get help, but a lot of times that help isn't there. If you can get in those active lots safely you definitely are on the right track, to being a good driver.

i think all drivers should run dg for a week, it's a great way to learn backing and after running it for a week they wouldn't cry as much when thing don't go as planed

Running dedicated is a nice break every once in awhile.

    I did the work.

    What I did was
I pulled into the lot and set the trailer up for the backup
Popped the air brakes got out to take a look behind me and what was in the lot
Kept an eye or tried to keep an eye on what was going on in the parking lot all the way to get back in the truck and started backing up.
I watched my trailer on the right and left the best I could for any type of marking on the parking lot, and still kept an eye on the lot for the cars, and anyone exiting the store or trying to pull in behind me
I did all of this until I go the trailer to where it needed to be.
If I felt I needed to stop GOAL it again I would do that, if I thought that I needed to pull up I would do that too.

I take my time in backing up and do not allow the traffic in the parking lot to dictate that I need to rush this job in anyway!!!!

Try turning on a wrong road and the only way out is to back on a side road. Very easy because you're backing onto a 2 ln road, but backing off of a two ln rd makes the front swing tight. Then watch for that light poll they put right across the street from the rd you're backing onto, that right front fender will get it if you don't pay attention. Then you got cars from all 3 directions pissed because they are in a hurry to get to mcdonalds.

This has been some interesting reading! I finish school this week and have been Trying to decide between USX and TMC as my two top choices. Any USX drivers in this thread that can say this truly isnt the norm for this company? Ill be watching this thread close! Thanks All, and HD thanks for keeping this going!

My friend, you have come to the right place.... First, I have to ask; What is it you want to do when it comes to driving truck,,, TMC and USX are two different monters all together.. I have worked for both, just in case you were wondering.. I like both,,,worked for TMC from May to Aug,,not long and if you look at my background you will see why.. I started with USX 3 weeks ago and I drove for SNI for 3 years.. I can anser all your questions.

I can tell you that I have been told that this is not the norm at all. I have been dealing with the head of the training department.

It may also depend on if you want to run a dedicated route or go over the road too. I have been training on a dedicated route, and I may start leaning towards an over the road route.
