All the trucks in my CDL school were straight drive, no autos. The road test for USX was in an Auto and the first time I had even drove one. The trainers truck was a 10 speed. I have no issue with a 10 speed at all. Not really sure I liked the auto all that much as it is.

I have had and heard other people talk about floating with the straight drive too, and I even told the trainer I had, that I did not want to know anything about floating until I was sure that I was doing very well with up and down shifting the truck without floating.SheepDog Thanks this. -
This kind of problem happens when people put up with crappy treatment like that. The major mistake you made was not informing your training coordinator you were getting off the truck before it happened. My experience with the coordinators is that they really do have your best interest at heart. I also disagree with you not sending in the incedent report right away. Being pissed off at that moment would have been understood and you were probably in exactly the right frame of mind to really say what needed to be said about this pig. Based upon my wifes and my experiences as well as a lot of other drivers I know at USX, this is not normal and USX will never put up with a loser like this once they know about it. People are scared to complain and it is only a three week training processs so they gut it out letting the next guy (or girl) get abused too.
I do not like that the let Dedicated Drivers train, I was trained on the Dollar Tree account which sounds a lot like what you were on. None of what you described happened to me. We ran hard but I stopped when I needed to, took showers and ate well. It was a great experience and I learned a lot except for the non-driving parts. Never dealt with shippers or consignees, terminal transfers, or a lot of the "other" stuff you need to know. Luckily, my wife was trained on that stuff, another benefit to teaming.
Best of luck on getting back out right away. -
Craig - I did talk to the training coordinator the day before, and I left him know that there were some issues going on, and that I was trying to work with the issues. The trainer pulled the other things after hours that made me decide I needed to get out of the truck. It was after 5, so no one in the office.
The trainer called them in the morning after 8am and was talking to them on the phone to let them know I wanted off the truck. Now here is the fun part, they wanted to talk to me while I was driving 65 MPH down the interstate. I told them on the phone that I was not able to really talk to them as I was trying to control the truck at 65 MPH on the interstate. I had to tell him 4 times that I could not talk to him while driving.
We pulled into a rest area to call them back. The trainer got out of the truck to allow me the privacy to talk to them. I was on hold for 25 minutes, then the training coordinator came back on to talk to me. I told him of the personal issues and the safety issues, and all he could say was you have only been on the truck for a day and a half, cant you work this out??
This was a dollar tree account too. I am not afraid of hard work at all, it was the trainer and what he did and didnt do that turned me off, and I wanted out. -
Sounds like you handled it the best you could. Glad you got off that truck.
SheepDog Thanks this. -
I have been told by many people including the people I have talked with at USX that this kind of thing is not supposed to happen.
There were a lot of factors on why I could not fill out the report at the time. I am a person of my word, I told the training coordinator I would fill it out the next day, and I did that and faxed it in.
Thank you for your comments CraigmtnMoma Thanks this. -
Another update:
I called USX this morning and left a voice mail for them to call me. No call in 2.5 hours so I called again but did not leave a voice mail. Called my main contact first, then call the head of training. No one answered their phone.
I waited another 2 hours and called both people again and left voice mail, secondary person called me back in 5 minutes.
The are supposed to be setting me up with another trainer on 9/19, so i am waiting on the details on who it is and where I will need to meet them.
Funny thing is I dont feel real comfortable with what is going on right now. Even when they called me back it was like they could not get me off of the phone quick enough.mtnMoma Thanks this. -
Are you now a marked man ??
