Are you saying that you might receive one week (7 days) of vacation pay but the company expects you to be back in the seat prior to the expiration of the 7 days?

Not sure where your located but maybe check with superior carriers. I’m 2 months in with them and have no complaints, there’s several other guys in here who work for Superior as well who seem to speak highly of the company.

Don't know what kind of presence they have here but if they do, is there value in visiting a terminal and introducing myself to the terminal manager?

Absolutely. The individual terminals operate separately, under one company. I’m thinking the closest one to you would be Cincinnati, so that’s a bit of a hike. I could be wrong though

I work for a company that emphasizes resets at home, 5-6 days out, 1-2 at home. There are plenty of companies out there that emphasize home time actually at home, and you should easily be able to find one that can accommodate you.

Just don't be unreasonable in your first year and expect the impossible. Don't take a 5 day trip on a Monday expecting to be home Friday night. Because chances are, you won't be, especially with inexperience.

It was the mistake I made when I first started in trucking on the highway. I made plans for Friday evening early in the week, then got angry/frustrated when I got home Saturday morning. Now I know better (as does my wife) and tell everyone that asks when I'm free that I'll know when I get back.
