Well it's kinda hard to tell at this point since I only have 11,000 miles on it & they don't usually start to open up until around 50,000. At this moment in time it is a pooch on hills and the MPG is in the toilet. I have been tracking the MPG since I got it & my average is around 5.75 MPG, I need a strong tailwind & flat ground to break 6.0 so hopefully it gets better. I was talking to Andy last week about it and along with the 3.42 rears these are only a single cam motor opposed to the dual overhead cam engines we speced for years. I guess Kenworth in Sioux Falls said this combination would boost our fleet average MPG but in reality it has dropped it to roughly 6.2 MPG. Like I said it's still early in the game so hopefully she opens up over time. Welcome aboard Mushroom! If you have any questions feel free to ask and we will try to steer you in the right direction. I'm in 788 so if you see me give a wave! Safe travels all.

Got a buddy in a 2009 T660, he gets around 5.7 to 6mpg, was expecting 7+. His old T600 would get 6.7 to 7.5 all day long. Something KW isn't telling us.
-
Blame the EPA.
Single cam?! It's still an ISX? -
Well got my tractor 657 Peterbilt now sitting in Edinburg,Va waiting on my load to St James,Minute look forward to meeting you guys ....be safe out there.

@Hawk sorry I missed ya, I had to roll out at 2100 to shoot down to Perry to grab a trailer for Concordia, MO. @Brian It's still an ISX but feels like it has 450 hampster power. While I was getting my oil changed I had a pretty lengthy talk with Dean & you hit the nail on the head. With all the emission laws & fuel economy concerns Cummins no longer makes the dual overhead cam ISX. If you have TRK 755 or lower that is a KW it is a 2011 model with a 2009 ISX with the DOHC which will explain the higher MPG & pulling power. @Mushroom I hope you brought a good book because is notorious for taking forever to get a trailer done. Cory tries to tell me sometimes that it will be done early. My response to that is how are they going to get it done early when they can barely get it loaded on time?!? We've all been in this boat when we have 3 stops in Cincinatti the next day. Oh well we're reefer drivers, so like the military it's hurry up & wait.

This emission BS WTF?! Sorry but the more I learn about emissions standing in the way of progress and profit in our industry...drives me crazy. I vow that any truck of my own or my company's in the future will either be a pre 07 or a glider.
Rob does your KW have a built-in inverter? I think it was Randy that was telling me his has an integrated 3000 watter. Peelot has 1000 watt inverters on fire sale and I'd like to pick one up for my next truck (don't want to invest the shop's or my time in the Pete) but if it's built-in then that would also be a waste. I have a plug in 300 now just for my laptop but I'd like to be able to nuke food in the future. -
If you are looking to get a pre emission engine it wouldn need to be nothing after 2004 which is when they started putting EGR valves in which is the root of the problem with these new engines. As far as I know the KW's do not have built in inverters. If you get one the shop pretty much says have all of the materials ready to install it & they will do it. Your best bet would to hit Best Buy or a car audio shop for these things. You will want a heavy gauge positive cable & ground wire plus an inline fuse.

True that on the EGR. EGR doesn't seem too terrible but the DPF seems to be where things really get screwed up.
Thanks for the inverter info.
Anybody know how the shop feels about those blow guns that you tap off the seat air line? I know they can be problematic as I installed one in my last company truck and the #### "acorns" that came with it for the imfamous compression fittings were scored right out of the box. I see they have a different make (non Road Pro) on sale for $10 here at Bosselman's at the 142. My floor is getting pretty dirty! -
Brian,
Regarding the blow gun, well I know another driver who installed one and they didn't seem to mind only thing is that it will have to stay with the truck when you get out of it. Single cam engines, reminds me when I worked for Cummins back in the 80's-90's the new engine then was the L10, along with old favorites 350, 400, they were all single cam. Things sure have changed, for the worse I'm afraid all in the name of global warming.
