Good luck Maverick in whatever way you go. I know I had limited options for a newbie, and some of those options were worse than Burger King, not that BK is bad mind you. So I leave tomorrow and we'll see what happens?I'm excited and torqued up.

Hey Matt Guard.. Let me know how things work out, if you can give us a shout out next weekend.. They hired me and all but i dont have to report until Next Monday so there's room for me to back out...I guess to me this company is to good to be true with the 5 to 6 days thing and still make over 50 G's... just keep us informed if you can..
-
Good luck! I look forward to following your updates. Van Wyk sounds like my kind of company, if what they claim to provide is true. To bad I live in Oklahoma, 5 hours from their Great Bend terminal. I assume I'm out of range, but I may call them tomorrow just for the heck of it.
Do you know what their primary freight lanes are? -
Andrew I think they primarily run east to west. I live in Pennsylvania and they are willing to look at me. The only thing I don't like is that they told me if I go home under a load they want me to be able to park near my home and check on load. not really into checking on load when I'm supposed to be at the house enjoying the family. Anyway good luck.

Thanks Mav.
I spoke with the recruiter at Van Wyk today, and unfortunately, they don't hire from my area.
But I look forward to seeing how it goes for those of you that get on. -
Well one week down with the trainer. We left Monday for a load in Maquoketa Iowa, the Family Dollar warehouse. We made several p/u's and drop off's after that ranging from North Sioux City SD, to Middleton WI, then down to Dubuque, IA for a load heading to Front Royal VA, which is waiting as we speak for a 1pm. delivery on Monday. We drove roughly 2300 miles, I'm sure it would have been different if not training. So I'm mastering the 13 speed which was new, and the Volvo 760 we're using has a double bunk and 465000 miles which I know isn't excessive but they trade them back in by 500000. They drive Volvo's 760s KW T660s and Pete 386s. They take good care of their equipment and they are converting over to e-logs which isn't going over to well with some older drivers from my understanding. But from my understanding they have low turnover and they take care of their drivers, avg. miles are 2500 mils. but remember your paid percentage so the money is based on the value of the load, for example a load of meat leading east pays more then a load of soy milk heading west, it varies. Some guys really clean up taking Reynolds plastic to either New York or Georgia, and they are out five days. The more seasoned guys get those loads which is understandable an that's ok I'm a newbie. So overall still adjusting and learning and I have no complaints. If you want to run two weeks you can out to Ca if you want but they will get you home every week for a day or two and of course it may not always be the weekends, it's all about managment but you seasoned guy's know that. I may be heading to the company headquarters next week for orientation but if not the next week for sure, then they will turn me loose. My trainer say's I'm doing good so we'll see. Be safe.
Zen Trucker and The Challenger Thank this. -
Sounds Good M. Guard.. Well i'm off to Waynesboro Monday to do the road test and piss test.. Then i get to drive a truck off to Sheldon for Orientation... I Just hope it all works out well, I did my research before i left this crappy local to go back OTR.. i dont mind running OTR as long as its for the Right Company.. Well i hope to see you around, I'm a young big black guy with glasses, i doubt there's plenty of guys that fit this description so if you see me just say "Hawk" and i'll chuck a deuce to you!!
-
Good luck Hawk, you should have no problem. Well I have to wait to go to Sheldon, maybe next week. BTW, your physical description is not necessary, but I'll be looking for ya. I'm a middle size older white guy, you know the kind I look like a cop, he** I used to be one! Be safe.

I'm finished with week two and with the trainer also. I'm out with my first solo run on Monday. The past week, while it was good was exaustive because they had us run like a team, something I'm not used to or would care to continue. The company seems well ran with plenty of freight, and so far all is good. Be safe.
The Challenger and Montgomery Thank this. -
Good luck Mattaponi. What kind of truck did you get, or will you get? Keep us updated on your runs. I hope you continue to enjoy the ride.
