    Just out of curiousity, what trucks are open and avail in sheldon if anybody knows... ill be getting one of them this coming week.. I'm figuring it will be a kw... or if I'm lucky a volvo...

    Rob, the container business is booming, for those who are OO's or own the companies, the drivers, well.... Have adjusted to being home everyday and feeling somewhat normal, what ever that may mean, but the pay checks are not adding up. In short, it's day by day and I feel that I'm working harder than before, not to mention the equipment! We'll see, but if it doesn't get better, to quote Arnold "I'll be back".

    Well Larry you're not alone in all those feelings. Although I will say, as much as I'd like to become an O/O, I got a hold of some rough numbers for our ramp, and the margins are thinner than I'm comfortable with. You're talking 1200 after fuel for the hours I'd like to work, and 1600 for the hours I currently work, the trouble is that's before paying anything else: taxes, plates, insurance, and the truck itself! Although considering I'm only bringing home in the $600s, maybe I'm letting fear make the margins look smaller than they really are.

    Anyway, you are doing port containers right? I guess that's a whole different ballgame than rail boxes eh? I've been to Port Newark a time or two :) I will say it does get better as you get faster and the boss man trusts you to do live loads, pickups, etc. that put more money in your pocket (at least in our pay scheme.) I will say having just done my taxes, I made basically the same I made at VW while being home every night. That being said, you do work harder, there's no easy money days hauling containers really.

    What's this I hear my favorite dispatcher is no longer with VW? What's up with that?

    Brian, good to hear your doing ok. Regarding ports, well like I said O/O's do well, and unfortunately the companies; or at some of them, pay some poor sod just enough to stay broke! What's this about a dispatch change, in Sheldon I presume?

    Yeah Angie Did.... apparently she just got burnt out rumor has it

    Also, if you get a truck, make sure you have HELL OF RESERVE money... I'm in orientation today and tomorrow and yet to start making money and i've already forked over 1K in miscellaneous shiiii.... Hell i got to spend probably over $500 on brakes and an airline alone tomorrow smh, I don't feel like i made an mistake but I should of went over this truck a little better or lower the price, but i got an 10K reserve, hopefully things will get better, but clearly a lesson learned.

    Yeah, Angie left, unfortunately the people in Sheldon didn't even bother announcing it until the last minute.

    They got Ron in the seat now. Pretty easy guy to get along with, considering they threw him into that position without briefing him much about the drivers on Angie's board.
