You might go weeks and not get into that situation and then do it 4 or 5 nights in a row but I can promise you this,it will happen and you will be expected to do it. Best of luck to you.
-
thanks. I don't mind doing it. Just not a big fan of doing it every single night.

Hey everyone, my name is Josh. Glad I found this thread as I was searching for a new company. I will be joining you at Van Wyk starting next week. Tim is trying to find me a ride to Sheldon this weekend, which shouldn't be too hard since I'm only in eastern Iowa. Any advice for the new guy? Haha. I've been in a Volvo the last year and a half, so I'm hoping for a kenworth. I usually stick to myself when driving, but you guys seem like a great bunch! Drive Safe, everyone

Welcome aboard Josh. Not much to add to what you may already know. VW is going the way of the Volvo but there are plenty of KW's left. Good company and they will treat you right, just remember when to say when.
Happy Trails -

i live in winchester, va currently in school... does vw let drivers take the truck home?
-
Yeah most drivers take the whole rig home. If you are within a certain time/distance from a terminal they like it at the terminal though. I guess it's an hour? They also have this brief security assessment type form they want you to fill out telling them that it will be parked in a well lit area and in attendance if you want to take a load through the house. Best case scenario they want everyone to live on a farm and park it under the mercury vapor light, which I had the luxury of doing for a while. In this scenario they have no qualms about you running a reefer load through the house.

Hey guys just dropping in, I have "left" VW yet, I am on a very part time status, but I am sure I won't see the inside of a truck til at least christmas break.
There are somedays I miss the road and the hum of the tires, and not to mention some of the best scenery around (well out west anyway). But mostly I am so deep into home work and the ####ton of Math required here At Iowa State University for the engineering program. I still think about you guys though, and those long hours of driving and live unloads...especially now with the weather going back to the snowy season...
Take care guys, keep the dirty side down, and may all your loads be ready when you get there!!mushroom1464 Thanks this. -
