Listen , if you don't believe me , ask david in Great Bend , about the guy he used to have in N.E.Ky , that quit because Corey wanted him to take a 18cpm Broker load to Green Bay , which is also a broker area. If you can't ask David , then why would you question me ? It happened , I said I wouldn't do it , he said pick it up and bring it here then you can quit. I said only if you promise me a hot seat home. That's the one good thing I can say for him , he held good on his promise and hot seat me home. David new darn well the guy screwed me 3 times out of 4 I went to Waynesboro , I was a great bend driver , the only way I get home is heading a load toward VA which landed me under his control. I'd hit the house for 2 to 3 days every 23 or 24 , was there for 6 months , and seen about 2 good loads and 5 crap loads. DO THE MATH , it wasn't worth going home anymore , but I have a wife.

Seniority always trumps rookies, it's the way it is. Regarding nice equipment vs junk, well that's the driver's decision, he/she has to live in it. I see lots of trash on the roads and somehow they still drive after a DOT inspection? Maybe something to with open borders? The fact is companies don't want to pay decent wages because there are so many hauling cheap freight. When the politicians stop taking payoffs from the trucking lobbies(ATA), maybe rates will go up, until then we tread water. The days of big bank rolls are over, for most, and if a person can't make it in this business well it's time look elsewhere.

So we gonna compare a job where you make 40 stops a week to a job that at times make less than 5 stops a week?? And Jevic was an LTL type gig like New Century. My uncle best friend drove Jevic out of Richmond for 10 years. How many guys gonna wanna stay out 10-12 days at a time?? So of course they paid the 50 cents a mile.. but I'm not doing 40 stops in week. That's cool if you wanna do it, but not me... So why compare a job like that to Van Wyk?? You gotta another comparison??
-
And what other companies are paying Hub Miles besides an LTL gig or a Private fleet carrier like Wal Mart?? It's not many...
-
There's plenty of comparisons dude , I drive for one , and it's not forced dispatch , it pays by the hub , and the 401k is 100% match , the home time policy is as long as you avg 8000 miles per month , you can take up to 7 busn days off no questions asked. Medical and dental ins. Your hub is about 37 cpm , just Thurs was offered a Raymond NH round trip is no less than 4000 miles. ...
So do the math ...
4000 miles @ .37 CPM = 1480.00 the pay you're taxed on.
minimum 6 days Per Diem @ 63.00 = 378.00
1 del 1 pu and 1 del back in TX =30.00 for the 3rd stop.
Total 1888.00 6 days ... but taxed for only 1480.00
This is a private carrier that works with a select group of brokers , trucks governed at 68 paper logs enabling you to be creative , and as long as you don't exceed 715 miles in 11 hrs driving there are zero questions asked.
Usually here you can get yourself 4 days a week at 700 miles a day. @37cpm is 250.00 each day not including the extra 63.00 Per Diem , it's not much of a problem only working 4 days a week here and still grossing 1252.00 , that's without doing a thing the other 3 days. There are days here you wait on a load , you can ask the supv's if they have anything that can make you a few bucks , and they can dream up stuff to do at 13.50 an hr. plus they're real good about paying you like 8 hrs for 2 or 3 hrs worth the work.
Here we don't pull bottom of the barrel loads from brokers that agree to move frt cheap.
Often , and I mean 9 out of 10 times , our trucks mty in Miami , the pu's are GA and SC , We've been known to deadhead 1200 miles to Bowling Green KY. I once mty'd in Norfolk VA and deadheaded to Appleton WI at 37cpm plus 63.00 per day Per D. So please , don't try telling me % is the way to go , because wrong is an understatement. Percentage paying companies pay this way because they benefit greatly at your expense , make no mistake about it.mxpx148 Thanks this. -
Do your research bud. That's best I can tell ya , not having confidence in yourself to find the good companies , mean the percentage paying outfits win. It's one thing to start with a company like VW , but after 2 or 3 yrs , you're nuts to stay there , especially you have a clean MVR , no out of service violations , and no reportable accidents.
Eyes and ears open going down the road , talk to guys in Truck stops , ask questions , use the web , jot down Truck names for future reference then search them on the web. Don't just be satisfied with having a percentage paying job , if you're good and you know it , show it. Treat yourself , the only reward you'll get in this business is the one you make for yourself. -
Hmm ok... be safe out here man

Thought I'd pop in for my every few month check in to let some of the "old timers" on here know I'm still alive and kicking! I hope that all of you guys are pounding out the miles and keeping busy around this joint. I left Salem, OR 0130 last Saturday and by 0245 when I rolled into Ottawa on Friday my 70 was fried, but I'm not #####ing it just gave me an excuse to get a room for a little R&R. You guys be safe and I'll see ya when I see ya!
