Currently sitting here at beautiful Patrick Cudahy, finishing up my 10 hour break, ran out of time getting unloaded. So 634 is going the way of the private owner, and I'm in 672, for now.

Thanks guys. My name is Mark.
Regarding line 5, the rules say that off-duty driving is basically only for non-load related movement. So deadheading away from your last drop before hometime, bobtailing to a restaurant or something while on a 10, or coming off of hometime if you're going somewhere that's not directly associated with load (aka, from home to the terminal). But yeah, generally using line 5 while you're loaded is really, really dangerous. It makes the LEOs and the safety people grumpy. At the job I just left, safety just knocked down the max allowable line 5 time from 60 minutes to 15 mins per day (midnight to midnight). Too many drivers using it to get a little more distance on their driving day.
I tended to use it from time to time to get from a legit parking place into a customer or from the customer out (if I couldn't get there during a legal drive shift, and the customer didn't have on-site parking). But even that is probably a no-no. Nobody ever gave me grief, though, because I wasn't using 60 minutes a day, every day.
I plan on having a detailed discussion with Van Wyk safety when I come in for orientation. Nothing worse than breaking rules you're not trying to break.
Oh, and regarding that spinner knob thing: I've always had it referenced this way.
The bold part is what I've seen interpreted as a prohibition on attaching anything to the steering wheel that could inhibit the free turn of the wheel. It's a super conservative interpretation, but better safe than sorry, I suppose. -
Soooooooo, I rolled into Sheldon around 0100 this morning and headed to the hotel after writing up my truck, man it felt great to sleep in a bed other than the one in my truck! 5 weeks is the longest I have gone without atleast getting a hotel for the night & I felt like a hampster in a cage! I just needed to get an oil change and have the shop check some minor items out & when I came back from lunch Cory had my truck all torn apart. Turns out I needed a new EGR cooler so my truck was down & I needed to be in Rochester, MN # 1800 for a delivery. Big Dale had me take Leah's truck up here, boy I don't miss Volvo's one bit!

Five weeks, good for you Rob, five days is enough for me, at six I start getting ansey, and besides, the wife would go off. Sounds like once you get the bugs worked out of that KW you should have a good ride. Volvo's, yea to each his own I suppose, especially with a worn out seat, like the one in my Pete, not everybody has a fat #####!

Mark, I believe you are on the money with line 5. I think our safety dept. has taken a conservative approach with it however. Rob, Tim does allow you to drive empty to a TS or Walmart, what have you, just not home, though by the letter of the law you should be fine going home too from what I can tell. Mark we have no specific limits on line 5 time, but due to our drivers abusing it to make a delivery on time, similar to what you mentioned at your last company, we are now being audited closely on it.
Rob thanks for the parking info. I did make it home though
They must have really wanted that stuff in Elizabeth. I was empty 10 minutes after bumping dock! A gravy run indeed!
Larry, hope they got you in a decent Pete; hope your next move is to a KW! Rob I hear ya on the Volvo. People rag on them, and they don't have the style of the narrow cabs, but they are terrific trucks! I am much more comfortable in tight situations going down the road and backward at the dock or TS in a Volvo where I can see directly how close I am on the left side at the nose and the trailer. -
Volvo = Junk......

Nice. I was trying to bend my brain around the possibility of e-logging with zero flexibility. Getting off the receiver's property once empty is what I used it for probably 80% of the time. Gotta love reefers.

Haha. I think we went around on this on the CB? I should specify that my experience is with a Cummins powered Volvo. Will you allow it hawk?

Central Refrigerated is hiring

Thank you, no. When I was going through the hazing ritual (aka working for CR England), their HQ was just down the street. Even then I got the idea that to work there would just be a lateral move.
