Whatever you do. Stay clear of hauling dirt or asphalt here in Vegas. The wages aren’t great for outside haulers. And if you land a job with the top companies. You’ll starve from the seniority game. After you get your license try H&E equipment rentals or Ahern. They like guys who are fresh so you don’t come in with bad habits. Pay/benefits are decent and home every night.

You might look into Apex Bulk.

What is your opinion of Werner? They also have a depot in Vegas. I'm leaning hard toward company paid / reimbursed now that I've researched it a little bit more. Paying for school while paying rent while not getting a paycheck will be a bit of a hardship for me. I'm planning on sticking with a carrier for at least a year or two unless they actually torture me, so the lack of freedom isn't a huge deal.

Werner's reputation isn't too good, but it works for some drivers. Paychecks can really fluctuate there from what drivers have posted.
I'd look more at CFI and Prime if your situation is best for company paid training.
Prime pay scale is about the same as Jim Palmer Trucking.
Should be able to pay your rent with Prime, Jim Palmer Trucking, CFI.

Its logistics out of sparks nevada is another solid option. Good benefits and they hire students.

Ask the company how many hours of schooling they require. Some require a minimum 200 hours of school...it varies

I went from Las Vegas taxi (Bell Trans) to CDL myself in 2015. The money is not only better now, but more consistent. Considering UBER/LYFT weren't even allowed in Vegas when I bailed, that has to be even more true today. The two jobs actually have much in common, as the 12 hr a day, 6 day a week taxi industry in Vegas already means you had no real life, so if you could do that, you'll fit right into trucking. And "long hauling" is definitely not the game in this job.

werner runs AIT training now up off Craig. I went there before Werner bought them. seems like they have a lot of the same trainers there. I see the trucks everyday as i run local now up in north Vegas.

Vegas is a hard market you'll constantly get the excuse no freight to get you home. You have Knight off of Cheyenne and Lossee they'll get you going

How's your research going? I'm also in Vegas and just started asking the same questions you have until I saw this post.
