Sprint says they're working on 4 G, they don't have much of it yet.. its pretty much 3

in common places where Verizon gets 4, sprint is 3

I have a Verizon older 3G Droid. I use internet on it a TON (older plan with unlimited data). Don't plan on changing anytime soon. In fact, a guy at my local Verizon store said NOT to!!

And, the newer Droids don't hold their charges nearly as well.

All the apps ... 500 megs, that's probably closer to 1 gig in reality. Plus and this is for anyone who reads this who run primarily on a cellular data for internet access ..
You need to disable the automatic "Windows Update", as well as any other software you may have that want's to automatically look for and download updates. (Games, print drivers, apps, etc) The updates, especially following a new OS install are massive and are often done in the background without the user's knowledge. Even if it only "checks" for updates, the data exchanged is fairly large. Any new OS install will default to "automatically check for and download, and install critical updates" and this is far from ideal from anyone who loads up onto a wireless data setup.

When you get home or to a hotel that has good bandwidth, then run your updates manually.

And also, it should be pointed out that if you pull a gig of data on the 10th, it may be the 11th or 12th before the activity posts to your account on the "usage" side and perhaps another day before it posts to the "billing" side, and this is on either ATT or Verizon.

I've read the nightmare stories about mis-metered data with Verizon, so I installed a free network monitor. I'll track usage to see how VZ's data count differs with mine. I've been tethering with my Droid3 under an unlimited contract, but got tired of not being able to map routes on google while talking to brokers. So I picked up a jetpack on Tuesday.

I can see how the independent wireless carriers that rent towers to VZ could be to blame. They charge VZ for data used, so those carriers may be submitting inflated data usage invoices to VZ to enrich themselves at your expense.

If you did a upgrade that is what did it, happened to me. Best thing to is what MN suggested.

Did you go online and look at your billing? It shows daily. If in question then call VZ.

And in addition to the upgrade on your laptop, the phone itself may have done an upgrade too, and that is also a considerable amount. Make sure you have auto update on all of your apps turned off too.

I'm a T-Mobile user too. My only gripe with them is the roaming caps now that my phone will connect to AT&T s HSDPA network and use up the 100mb faster than under EDGE.
