This is such a state by state thing that Ridgeline has a point about consulting a lawyer. The state laws are all over the map in rules concerning using a truck for RV use or Personal Transport. Individual DOT officers are of differing opinions also, so it is best to have a prepared paperwork presentation to address all issues.
The RV thing seems simple but regulations are all over the map. Some states do require certain facilities and matching plumbing. That is often accomplished by hooking the trailer to the truck. But, what about when dropping the trailer of and bobtailing to dinner. Some state now consider that a commercial vehicle.x1Heavy Thanks this. -

Regarding bobtailing to dinner, there used to be in my time a authorization card that relived us all responsibility to a load or 18 wheeler and take the tractor for personal use where necessary. (Sometimes on extended runs we throw in some money for fuel and reported same to dispatch so they can track the gallons burned as required in each state.
