I know a woman named Isabel TallHorse. I am not her.
That said. There is no educational requirement to be the victim of sexual harassment or rape. In these forums, we do not pick on people for how they write. If you don't like it, skip over it and move on.
The descriptions of the events ring true to me. Not because I am a woman, but because I have half a brain and can see not only the progression of the events, but the fear and intimidation she must have felt. She is starting a brand new job, as the lowest form of life in the trucking world: a Rookie. She does not know how it works when fecal matter hits the air rotation device. She was probably told (by her trainer, no less) that he is her only hope of advancing in this career field. If she doesn't follow his instruction, she will fail completely. He probably told her she would not be placed on another truck, she either completed his training or she would be fired. Often, this is enough to intimidate a weaker person into remaining in a situation that can escalate into dangerous proportions. Her only source of information about the company is her POS trainer.
I would like to know what the DAC entry says. That may sway my opinion one way or the other.
Bulletproof, hold onto your hat: I agree with you.Last edited: Dec 11, 2011
cj8, Female Driver, sdaniel and 4 others Thank this. -
All this is nonsense. If this did happen, any woman in her right mind would go directly to the police instead of a trucking forum. Come on people, think.

Keyword: "In her right mind."

I wonder if there are any females entering truckworld that cave to these type of circumstances, and become "truck slaves", never saying anything and eventually merge into team?

Needless to say, the OP obviously attended public school. Keep in mind that in the public system, (considering the area she is from especially) that the system does not help those that don't want to help themselves. In most cases, the student is "passed on" to keep the numbers in synch and keep the $$$ [Federal and State] flowing in, without regard to the students proficiency. When do you hear about students being "held back"? Not much in the last 20 or so years, and this OP is probably one of those that got pushed to the side.
She has enough verbal competency to create and transcribe the story to be seen and understood by others. I merely put the exact words into a grammatical order to be more easily comprehended and responded to...but they were her words and phrases...and you all got the point of the story. This industry,at the driver level, does not require any real literary proficiency, grammatical correctness, or punctuational expertise. The driver level needs are to be able to read and comprehend some basic navigational skills (can be taught), ability to read road signs (no necessity to actually correctly pronounce the names of cities, but to know which way to go), ability to follow numbered highways and posted speed limits (again numbers), be able to tell time and be on time. Driving skills are just that; hand, eye, foot, and motor response coordination for each and all of these mentioned in combination and singly.
Personally...I believe her story! I was a trainer/Mentor with Swift for well over a decade. At Swift, (and most every training company) this OP's story is not new, it actually happens and the trainer instructions cover this scenario, hoping to weed out the potential perpetrator through the education of the company's knowledge that this has, and does occur.
Why didn't she go straight to the Police? Intimidation maybe, perhaps she was accustomed to this behavior all through her working life, and had learned to let it slide to accomplish a goal. There are too many possibilities to predict what her reason(s) were for her delay in reporting this/these incidents.
However...it is not for us, as her peers (we are also drivers, no matter our experience level) to find a judgement or prosecute her, or her intentions. Whether we believe or disbelieve her story is moot. Our purpose should be to get her the information she needs to follow up, legally and civilly, to get this matter resolved. She came here to vent, rant, and by creating a "poll"...she is asking for our advice...as her peers...what should she do?!Aubrey Allen Smith, Injun, Boonie and 4 others Thank this.
