Saw an ad for Vibratech today , so I looked . They use silicon , don't they ? Same as OEM ? Don't know ,just asking .
Link there to PP video , looks like they use Mercury. Again, don't know , just asking. But , I need to replace mine.
Silicon will set up , under heat , won't it ? Mercury is , well Mercury ?

Yep, that would be right. Mercury is used in the balancer, which is made by Balance Masters, the same basic design as their wheel balancers that use mercury. The Damper uses silicone as the medium.

pawpaw1, the silicone will harden over time. That is why it is recommnended by OEM's, Vibratech, PP, etc to replace the damper before 500,000 miles. Short of taking it off, cutting it open, and checking, there is no way you can tell, mounted, that the damper is needing to be replaced. But, these guys have lots of test data that shows the damper will start not doing what it is supposed to do, after 500,000 miles, on average. The balancer is good for as long as you have it on. No wear out part. considering that the damper is considerably cheaper than a cracked crank or top of engine or bearing damage, it just makes sense and is good insurance to change it out near 500,000 miles.
