I have an 06 ISX and replaced the crankshaft balancer hoping to eliminate the vibration at idle. It probably stopped 50% of it which is very noticeable.

I have seen situations like this that installing a crankshaft balancer on the damper can take out that vibration. Good idea to do the damper as well while you are there. Just something to look at also. Not all that expensive and doesn't take much labor time. Balance masters makes driveshaft balance rings as well, but would only do that if all else doesn't give good results.
What burgerbritches referenced with the vibratech link is the crankshaft damper. The crankshaft balancer is a whole different deal. It is a disk that goes on before or after the crankshaft damper and has a mercury filled ring. The damper will take out the torsional strain on the crankshaft, but the balancer will continuously balance the crankshaft. The only place I know of where to get a balancer is Pittsburgh Power. They are made by Balance Masters, so you might be able to get one direct from them. You would be surprised how much vibration both of those items will take out of a truck and make that engine last longer.CellNet Thanks this. -
hi,i drive 06 volvo isx 06 ,have exact same problem, vibration as you describe, can't find this ##............ problem.........and makes me hate my truck .......help. one thing i found is i switched the hole on beam under air bags..........was on very botttom ,now is 2nd from bottom -still vibrate but not as hard as before.....since last year i replaced 4 air ride hight valves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very common Volvo problem is completely seized driveshaft slip joints with those maintenance free, grease-less types. The drive shaft will start to pound the inputs and outputs of the trans and front diff. If your drive shaft is seized, be prepared to put a front diff in it soon. We have seen a few trucks like this recently.

I also have this problem with the vibration. I can feel it much more when I am loaded and not so much empty. Thought it may be the engine in some way but at 60 I would throw it into neutral and let it coast and the vibration is still there unchanged. Did the whole front end alignment still no change. Replaced rear suspension bushings and still no change. Very frustrating, feels like the truck is going to break apart it gets violent at times I have to back of off the throttle until it calms down a bit.
Taled to a friend and he suggested that my driveshaft may be out of balance. Perhaps one or both of the weights came off. I will need to get that looked at next and see what happens. I agree with the others it is very aggravating and makes it a challenge to get through the day. I should have noted that it really only does this once at highway speeds, 55 and better. -
ok, with last oil change i found that all front air lines been fixed many times so i asked mechanic if he can take all of them becouse of some leak(front air bags lines plus one is coming to turbo box on the engine) he put new lines and conectors, after this leak is gone but i see on preassure gauge betwen 105-124 psi???? before i had around 83-96psi on bobtali and around 7psi on rear end before 12-15psi,,,,,now i see much imrovment in driving,,,, vibrations on heavy load is almost like nothing but i feel them more on light load or empty trailer??????? truck seems to be little soft on the back and harder on front????? anybody have an idea????? is there something /valve which regulate preasure coming to front and rear air bags( leveling preasure thing) ,,,,,,,interesting is that mechanic showed me something strange he never met,,,,,from the cab side inside the frame there are tho air tubes ( yellow and black ) and one has preassure other not,,,,he connected yellow to T conector and both ends to left and right air valves---seems good and correct,,,,,,and black conected to black tube from turbo box mounted on the engine,,,,,simple,,,,but after truck has been strated air bags got inflated with air but trubo wasnt working??????????? so he took another T conctors and short air tube and put one T conector right before T conector( which divedes air preassure to air bags) and other end conect with both black air tubes( t connector ---one black from turbo box and one black coming from under the cab) ,,,,,,,now air bags are working and turbo , but still is something not right .......like i said before front has high preassure and feels hard but rear air bags feels to soft and preassure went down ?????????? so we both thinking that must be some kind of valve/or somthing which regulate preassure to front and rear air bags and is broken,,,,,,,or these preassures what i wrote on the beginnig are correct ???? mechanic said he needs some air system scheme /diagram to make sure everything is connected in good direction ( bough my truck used and air lines seems to be fixed many times) ,air dryer is new, rear air ride valve new, cant hear and see with water+soap any other air leakes,,,,,,,thank you
blessed_one Thanks this. -
