Not necessarily...But if it's the harmonic balancer all you would have to do to check it is take the truck out of gear while going down the road and let the RPM drop. If the vibration stops that could be the problem, If not...
Mine was vibrating like that when I first got it and it turned out to be the caster/camber was way out...But that wouldn't show up on a dyno. -
I'm glad you mentioned that, because I can go down the road and when it starts shaking real back in the front, I've taken it out of gear and let it coast, and it still does it.
But remember, it does it for a few about 15 seconds.
Stewert Stevens said that it will vibrate from one end to the next and back again. Like a wave. It feels like that also.
It's broken both my bumper brackets. Now it cracking my bumper. And has broken both my round door mirrors.Izzyloco Thanks this. -
I've been up and down with that.
One thing to note, I can't get it as low as my friends truck. Who's got a sister truck to mine. Same year, specs, motor, transmission, drives, everything is the same...(they were both build for the same company) -
If it the Caster/Camber being out, It will be wearing steer tires out early....70,000 to 80,000 miles. If it's really bad it'll wear them out in 40,000 miles or so, You'll also notice them cupping out within 25,000 miles or so.
Steer tires ought to last at least 130,000 miles or better if everything is set up right.
At any rate...it doesn't sound like it's engine related if you have already done the coasting thing and it makes no difference.
Has it always done this or did it recently start doing it?
If it just recently started doing this...Did it come on slow and gradually get worse or start all at once?
Since we have all but eliminated internal engine problems by coasting it then it is narrowed down to either gear train, Drivelines or wheels and tires and related components such as brake drums that can and will cause vibrations under some circumstances.
Also...Is it speed related? Slower speed, Slower rate of vibration? -
so hows it comeing with the shakes?did youcheck the shafts=angle=balance=trueness=spline alinement.any of those are of and itll shake up like a monkey.

My steer tires are wearing fine. The only noticable funny wear is on the front drives. The two front inside drive tires were wearing alot fast on the inside than the others. When I had my alignment done, the axels weren't following each other. But that was corrected, but it still didn't stop my shaking problem. I had em all rotated and rebalanced. And had two new one put on. Still no cure.
It has been going on for about 6 or 7 months now. I can't remember exactly wqhen it started. I just thought it was something simple, like a tire out of balance or something else simple. That's when I started dumping $$$$ after $$$$ to fix it.
It's not really speed related. Though it's not really noticeable in lower gears, you can still feel it. I checked it from 55 on up to 75 and at any speed, it's the same. I started # 55 and let it vibrate. Then went to 58, then 60 and about every 3 mph incriments. -
Does the rate of vibration change at all as the speed changes?
Is there any noise related to the vibration? -
Not really. It's about as bad at 55, as it it at 75. And as far as the noise, I don't hear anything changing (Except the stuff in my bunk about to fall out of the cabinets)
-
Well...I'm stumped!
I'll think about it...But I've never heard of anything like that.
