VIDEO: Semi loses oversize beam

It is a steerable dolly, you can see the hydraulic cylinders up by the turntable.

To me it looks like he deadsticked the turn, and either it was already crabbing before the turn or the beam was snaking from the turn.

 

This is the view from the passenger mirror of a blade. There is 117 ft between the drives and the trailer axles. Would you believe this load is 10ft wide, all on the passengers side? Not much to go by, is there? So, what do you think...is the trailer straight or dog tracking?

 

Same here, but with a nicer trailer...

Dont know why we bother though really. The "experts" will still have their BS opinions on it. After all, those boxes and 48' flats are just the same right?

But I have to agree to many TS trainers that have no clue what we do and why we do it. We don't split lanes for the heck of it, we don't move slow because we like it that way. those monster turns and swings aren't for fun.

Someone a few post back made a comment about water shorting the dolly out, I had one that shorted and crossed 3 lanes before I could stop the truck. its no fun sometimes and it makes it worse when yahoos pass judgment that have never been there or done that

 

Not beating a dead horse, Mr Dogcatcher...education is continual. The general public sees a driver in a truck and thinks it's an easy job that requires no skill. They think, "I can do that...I can hold a steering wheel and drive." Freight haulers, drive a 48-53 ft trailer and think that just because they can pull a box, they know our end of the business.

I was at the house for a few weeks and so, I couldn't get a pic of a driver's view of the right rear view of a stretched blade. When we said that it's not that easy to see what went wrong, the skeptics voiced their doubt. Lefty and I both showed a beam trailer with a 10 ft wide load, all on the passenger side. There's no reference point visible until you get to the wheels. Beam trailers and wide loads both present a certain challenge because you do not have that 8'6 wide reference point, the difference being with a beam, you can't see anything until the trailer wheels reach there, and with a wide load, you can't see anything past the load.

 

Don't get me wrong wasn't knocking you at all Triple Six, Just this beam vid has shown up in about 4 different threads and all seem to be other than heavy haulers injecting there Opinions, just seems to be getting old.

 

Understood, but the other threads don't count. It's like asking a bunch of preschoolers advice on the ladies.

The tail is kicked out towards that side a little, normally the tip of the blade is not visible at all, in either mirror

 

You guys are doing it all wrong. You need to get some G.O.A.L stickers on your mirrors.
