Ok I gotta ask, I've seen the phrase "the best" in this thread several times. You guys can't seriously think prime is the best trucking company, can you?

    Joetro and T_TRUCKER• Thank this.

Im becoming a double threat of knowledge now that Im in a cubicle.

OP pointed out the video, op didn't make it... so the OP expectations are as a driver from the outside looking in. kinda like our friend here, even further removed from the situation.

To your other point, the guy in the video had to be a moron riding around in a bubble for MONTHS during training not to have seen these trucks or have no clue what was in store for him.

Couldn't agree more on the last point.

grasping at straws much? One guy, a wannabe that hasn't left to start his career yet, makes the statement and you are gonna blanket everyone here?

what are you trying to stir up?

I did a search. it pops up once, and then again when the post is quoted. several times indeed

Ok here's what I read and then I'll post the link where I read it:

How much will I be making once I'm running solo in my own truck?

"Once going solo you will make 34cpm. However, many new drivers elect to drive a truck in Prime's "Lightweight Fleet" which consists of smaller trucks. These trucks have cabs and sleeper berth areas that are approximately ½ the size of regular trucks. They also only have 1 bed and do not come equipped with a passenger seat.

Drivers in the lightweight fleet make a 5cpm bonus bringing the starting pay to 39cpm.. How much will I be making once I'm running solo in my own truck?

Heres my mistake and I'm the bigger man to admit so. That was not on the Prime website which I thought it was and I'll proudly take responsibility for my thinking it was. On Prime's site only mentions the bonus for the lightweights. Trucking truth (where I saw it) varies the policy.

Now as for my recruiter telling me about the incentive, she simply told me that if I drive a lightweight I'd make 5cpms more per mile. Sounded good to me either way and I NEVER had a problem as I'm one to say who cares! So that's my story super pros! Where I got my info and what I was told.

And I will add that if I'm the newbie wannabe (which I am) being quoted, YES I did say BEST!! Why because they are the BEST for ME and I WILL NOT back down from that assessment. If you take offense, so be it, it is what it is!!

"THEY" (we all know who "they" are!) haven't gotten around to updating the website recently... you can tell that by that 39-cpm figure they quote. Currently it's 42-cpm.

The lightweight program has gone through a number of revisions since it was first implemented. It was originally conceived as a voluntary program for drivers who would be doing regional loads near their home. They'd be home every week, so no need for a palatial condo truck.

Note... that was the "original concept" about five years ago now.

So, our clients get into the act noting that it would be possible for them to decrease the number of shipments (an extra 2,000 to 3,000 lbs of cargo in each ECO 49 series trailer) if this was implemented system wide. So... after a bit it became an "every company driver is gonna get one of these things" program. There are exceptions, and your FM can create one. Very tall guys have the pity clause applied and get a bigger truck. I noted that Flatbedders get a bigger truck because of all of the extra junk they have to haul around to do their job, training and teaming are exceptions as well. That "elect to drive a lightweight" verbage has been on the web page for a long time. Perhaps it should be revised a bit?

It should be noted that the looser in the YouTube video was in a mid-roof Cascadia. Prime also buys a small version of the International ProStar that has a lot more headroom... that goes a long way to creating the illusion of a much bigger truck.

    Geez Louise rook!

collecting your info from a third party site.... from a guy who says he talked to Prime recruiters... then spouting off here at TTR, is almost as bad as hearing it "from some guy" at the truck stop.

Whoever runs that website hasn't talked to or updated any of his info in a couple years, from what I can tell.

Unless it comes from Prime's company website, you're wasting my time.

I will say it AGAIN. NO WHERE on Prime's website is there any implication that company driver's fresh out of training get a choice between a LW or a Condo.

I can't believe how this thread is still going. The video was made last December. Does the idiot still work for prime? Probably not. Everyone knows that you get a lightweight if your a company driver. Either accept it or move on to other companies. I'm sure he could've gone to say stevens and made a whopping 0.23cpm and had a spacious T680 or Peterbilt but he choose prime and the 0.42cpm and doesn't like his truck? Just saying is all....
