Dealers DON'T lie...you should know that......get your checkbook out
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Every vehicle I've ever owned was manufactured in the previous year.

Well, I think if you look at some of the new trucks at the dealers today you will see they are 2021s with 2020 assemblies dates. So I highly doubt the dealer, in this case, is trying to defraud the OP. Most vehicles have a model year that runs from late summer till that next summer. Kind of like how fiscal years run.

manufactured 1/1/21 will be titled as a 2022. I always trade in at the end of the year and take the new truck in the first few months of the new year.
Midwest Trucker Thanks this. -
Mine is titled as a 2018, I picked it up on 3/1/17.

Model year is just a designation, and has to meet the laws and and specs of the model year.
It has nothing to do with the actual build date.
Back in the 80's Mack had inventory for 5 years and called them whatever the model year they were sold.
And to add to the confusion sometimes laws etc change on Jan 1st. so any truck built after jan fist has to comply to the new rulesLast edited: Nov 1, 2020
