the one in the link, black in color, sale price..

    1997 TOYOTA SUPRA TURBO
    PRICE: $ 239,800

    that mechanic had better die.

if it were my car with such a value, i'd be at my lawyers office in a nano second.

the shop, owner, lead mechanic, the dumdarse driver, anything with a name attached, will be sued.

when i ran my shop (before i got into trucking), anyone not familiar with high powered cars was NEVER allowed to work on them let alone drive them.

back in my days, Vettes, 'Stangs, Datsun 280 Z, and nearly all other "muscle cars" were off limits, when they came into my shop. only 3 of us worked on them, and test drove them.

if the customer laid down some rubber leaving the shop, so be it. not us.

As for me,while Supras are nice,I’m more partial to the Nissan Z and to the Mitsubishi 3000GT/Dodge Stealth.
The Z has always been the “working man’s sports car”-commute to work Monday through Friday, play on Saturday and Sunday. And because there’s so many of them, depending on the model year and body style, trim and condition, someone can pick them up for a modest price.

Now a lot of drivers will consider the TwinTurbo 300ZXs or the mid to late 70s Z cars to be the Holy Grail, I find that the base models are just as fun!

i'd actually be SUPER careful in buying ANY use foreign car from the 70's, 80's and into the 90's...

reason being, where they were built, and how the metals were treated.

they (Japanese) knew we had winters, but didn't know how much salts we used. i had at least 2 customers that had the Honda CVCC.

great little car, but rotted away to pieces due to the road salts, and untreated metals.

if a car is being advertised as a "California or Florida" car, that should be easy to trace......BUT, you'd not want one that was sold in either place, then moved up north, resold, then at a later time, returned back to those states.

You don’t want anything from FL, unless there’s proof it was stored in a climate-controlled environment. If not, it’ll have corrosion everywhere.

This is a cool place, if you’re into JDM/RHD stuff.

As the saying goes buyer beware! Anything from the 70s and early 80s was prime candidate for rust. The 90s wasn’t too bad as most manufacturers by then were adding rust inhibitors and corrosion protection to the vehicles during the assembly process.

yes, but more so for the Japanese cars. i had a Subaru come in (cannot recall the model) and as my helper tried to raise it up on the lift, the rear subframe started to fold up.

he let it down slowly, and we pushed the car outside.

when the woman who owned the car came to pick it up later that day with her husband, he couldn't thank us enough for possibly saving her life.

they had the car towed to the junk yard down the street, and went out and she bought another Subaru.....it was her favorite brand.

    just like mine is Toyota.

I had one of those myself-a light blue 1982 Subaru 1800 GL 4WD wagon. 4-speed manual (even with that it was underpowered). My junior college friends would call it “J-5” because the spare tire was mounted on top of the engine (common for Subarus back then). Back then Subarus were notorious for rusting out. Mine went to the junkyard at around 92,000 miles when the frame rusted to a point where the jack actually punched through the body!
Now Nissan in the late 80s/early 90s started bringing in corrosion protection in-house for their products at the factories instead letting contractors do the work. Other Japanese manufacturers started following suit.
