I drove many thousands of miles in Canada and found that Canadian authorities were more lenient than our American authorities. The only trouble I have ever had while driving in Canada were brake inspections and loose wheel studs. In all, I found the Canadian roadways much more trucker friendly than some states where they seem to relish nailing a trucker's as* to the road. (Canadian DOT inspectors will definitely nail you if your brakes are not adjusted properly) In the three write ups I got while in Canada (over 50 years) they did not appear on my US DMV record.

As a side note...........A DOT road inspector in Canada (Northern BC) made me crawl under a low-bed when they stopped our six rig convoy for random brake inspections as we were leaving a bush road and ready to pull onto a paved hwy (my last ever oil field trip). It had been raining like all get out for two days so everything was caked in mud. We each had to pay a water truck driver $35.00 (or we didn't move another inch) to hose the mud off the tractor and trailers, pull off the chains; then, watched as the inspector's trainee helpers checked every air chamber travel rod on every wheel of our convoy. I was one of the really lucky ones who had to crawl under that *&$^&^$##$%^ low-bed in two inches of slop and mud to adjust the travel rods to their specs. That was one of the very few instances where I actually wanted to eliminate a DOT inspector with a tire iron. At least they didn't write-up any of us.
