I do not receive pre-approved credit card offers because I chose to opt-out at https://www.optoutprescreen.com/?rf=t . The Fair Credit Reporting Act provides you the right to opt-out, which prevents Consumer Credit Reporting Companies from providing your credit file information for Firm offers. I also have a shredder for any other personal information that has to be discarded.

Basically don't open any email unless you were expecting it or know where it came from. If it's not familiar just delete it. You won't be missing out on anything.

My daughter-in-law, who is not the brightest bulb in the pack, fell victim to a request about her email a few years ago. She gave her username and password to a stranger who then hacked into her email account. The hacker then used her contact list to send out emails. I got an email supposedly from her in my inbox, no paperclip or attachment symbol found. I opened "her" email and read how she had traveled to England, lost her bags, ID, money, everything, and asked me to help her out by sending her some funds via Western Union. Well. I chuckled, knowing that she was not in England. I set the scammer up, promised to send "her" a few grand and told "her" to send me info so I could wire her money. I contacted the authorities, gave them the details and later found out the scammers got busted in England. Justice done!

Now it is that someone calls saying they are from MS and that they are seeing a lot of errors from your computer. Told them I am on a private network and how can they see my computer, they kept trying to tell me they do... so beware of this also...

I received this same phone call, but I do not own a computer that runs Microsoft. It was funny. I also got a phone call saying my Mastercard had been locked, but I do not have a Mastercard haha.

I got one yesterday from Eubank Funeral Home **Death Notification**

I'm scared to open it because it might be me! :biggrin_25521:

If I don't know who it is I don't open it. Hotmail is pretty good about filtering out the junk and they won't let you open something attached without asking you first. You can hover above the mail and it will tell you who sent it.
