This my be something you don't want to hear, but I HIGHLY advise you to DELAY school until you are fully ready. It is not just the physical. In a few weeks you will be driving a CMV as a student. If you can't see good your in serious danger of hitting something or somebody. This will derail you so fast your head will spin.

My issue is I can see great and drive normal without them. Day or night. When I put them on I wouldn't want to drive even my own 4 wheeler truck. Too much distortion (from what I am used to) and very little depth perception. When I move my head to check mirrors etc it feels like swimming. To me it's like distracted driving.
Doc says they are right rx and I should get used to it after a couple of days but after 10 I just can't and don't feel safe driving or walking half the time. I am ordering contacts to see if that may help as I think the distortion may be an affect of the distance from eye to lens.
Just want to make clear I do want to be safest on the road ...in any vehicle -
I'm going to stand behind my last comment. At this point you want NOTHING to hinder you. If you happen to fail your physical because of vision problems you might not be allowed to come back until you bring back some kind of ophthalmologist medical fitness to show the school you are ready to test and get through the program. If I were running the school I would demand this before you even underwent another physical. Stop, slow down, smell the grass and calmly take this step by step. A bit of prevention is way better then a whole lot of cure.

There's a doctor at one of the trick stops. I won't mention which one. When he does the eye test he stands in front of you to the side looking at eye chart. When he says to cover one eye I just stand there with both eyes open.

HAHA bro, get out.... this guy needs some serious help.
I do not recommend anyone with a serious astigmatism in 1 eye "just keep both eyes open" -
Memorize the eye chart with your good eye, then read it back from memory with your 'bad' eye.
FWIW, 20/40 is still legal without the need for a corrective lenses restriction. -
I was told that I am good to go without glasses because A. My astigmatism is not corrected much with lenses anyway.. and more importantly, B. my combined vision passes DOT requirements. 1 of my eyes is 20/20 and one is 20/60 and I was told my combined vision is 20/40 and I pass. I would check into whether or not you pass, maybe your eye doctor made a mistake?
