That's just how engines used to be made before the DPF and DEF was introduced.

My 2006 vnl780 with twin 120 gl tanks full is 20,100. With a day van and if it's loaded right I can get 44,500 legal

I.397,000 and the only engine work other than running the overhead was injector cups @ 1.200.000. Still running the original injectors

Biggest affliction to engine life is *EGR* , the after-treatment has little to do with engine life.
2003-2010(2008-2010 worst) had increasing amounts of required EGR flow to control NoX... And massively decreased life from abrasive soot... However ... engine life increased after DEF because it allowed less use of EGR to be legal EPA NoX output.

You've got the best of the best !!

Finding a N14+ in a decent 770 has become almost impossible these days

Phantom307, Bakerman and boneebone Thank this.

I still think it's more stupid expenses like $20,000 emission repairs that can bankrupt people that are ridiculous. And $2000 dpf filter replacement and more that can Rob the small business owner blind.

    Phantom307 Thanks this.

Yeah even a EGR cooler and the crazy expensive EGR valve. Then the massive soot /EGR rates in 2003-2010 to control NoX.

When they started using DEF, that allowed MUCH LESS EGR.... it's crazy how that soot destroys the internals, thankfully 2011+ the EGR is a small fraction of what first gen emissions trucks were.

Biggest problem with getting rid of all the Marlboro parts is the engine "tuner" can really screw up the timing splits and cylinder pressures go sky high... Causing HG and Liner issues. I use the word "tuner" loosely.. I don't think most even know how to calculate a timing split correctly. It's a plague on the diesel "tuner" industry in general.
