Volvo 780's

    ok, so the this is the story with the D16. don't, I repeat don't buy this engine if you pull lite loads. you will have nothing but problems, as this engine needs to be worked to be reliable. the majority of problems have been worked out with the D16 and are no longer a problem.

    d13 engines are good if properly maintained, even if they are a little under powered(08-09).

    the biggest problems with these two engines are injector cups, and sensor issues(08-09) from my experience, along with the dual mass flywheel on the D16.


    D12 engines. biggest problem with these engines is the egr failures, which seems to be related to the egr cooler leaking. replace the damper block on the cooler once a year and your cooler failures will all but disappear. the cooler sits higher than the egr's on this motor and once it starts leaking, it will flow down to the egrs and take them out.

    ISX still has some egr issues and more regen issues than the Volvo units.

    It doesn't matter what you buy, if it's a 2004 or newer, you can plan on spending plenty of money on maintenance, and repairs.
