Ok so I'm tired of digging around to find my answer does anyone know why Volvo will not be offering the Cummins in new model years
Just part of the general trend, manufacturers like all of their components to be able to talk to each other via their own proprietary computer systems. If they included other manufacturers equipment then they would have to use an industry standard that may hamper any advances they wish to make. Something like 97% of new trucks come with autoshift transmissions. There’s no way you can mate a Cummins to an iShift. So instead of holding up the production line for maybe 3% of sales, they choose to give it up.
It's been a very Low popularity engine with an increased price tag plus the quality is FAR inferior and costs more money. Getting the X15 also limited you to inferior transmission selections as compared to the iShift. Amen to that. The X15 Is a dying engine. PACCAR is trying to push Cummins out the door as well on KW and Peterbilt trucks to favor their In house engines and Transmissions.
