What's symptoms of bad injector cups? Mine is currently in the shop for losing coolant, couple gallons per week but engine running smooth , egr cooler is ok . I think mine have problem with cracked head (
2009 Volvo d13 435 hpJohny41 Thanks this. -
1 possible symptom is if your coolant smells like diesel.
-
maybe the head gasket is leaking, I had this problem with my last truck;
the ERG coolers are well made on this motor, mine is still original; but some friends of mine changed it 2-3 times, and need to pressure check it to find leaks; The compressor gasket can also leak , the water pump and the coolant container level sensor, but this 2 are visible;disoba Thanks this. -
Someone help!!!!! Have real problem with those injector cups. In 10 month period truck was in shop 4 times replacing them, seems like they can't find what is wrong. It is d13 and i have only 650k on the engine. Maybe anyone came across with something like that

It is very common for the cup bore in the head to be bad. If the cups move around in the head they will not seat properly.
-
So the head must be replaced to permanently fix this problem

Something else to consider is, fuel filter quality on the Volvo is sub standard for the injection pressures used.
The stock filter is only 5um and not absolute rating. None of the aftermarket filters are any better either.
One thing I have done is started using the 7um davco filter to catch a little more particulates before they get to the crap engine mounted filter.
Anyways.....the pressure of these injectors requires considerable force applied to the injectors. This force pushes the injector up/down within the cup as a flexing. Eventually the deal at the injector tip or the seal to the head fails from the flexing.
The steel cups flex far less than brass....but don't totally fix the problem.
