When I used to own BMW I had the same sludge under valve cover because crankcase ventilation system failed oil separator stuck closed the whole system is made out of plastic and condensation buildup in them in winter climate destroys it. The car would also smoke and don’t have power. Check your oil separator, plastic pipes and crankcase pressure sensorJohny41 Thanks this.

Did take a sample ?
Maybe have it analysed.
That way you have proof if it is coolant.Johny41 Thanks this. -
Yes, i'm waiting for results , should get them Monday, looks reddish could be an internal coolant leak. Since i got it installed in September coolant was disappearing slowly messing the emission system, perhaps the head gasket or liner was not installed properly during remanufacturing process.

Btw, just an update on this , oil analysis found water contamination, not coolant. I sent oil sample to CAT lab here in Ontario, they are quite reliable tests , have sample containers in every location for about 28$, same you guys have in USA with Black Stone labs. I didn't know this can happen, i thought water would evaporate quickly, but normal oil temp is aroud 210 -220 degrees F and water boils at 212, so they mix together with oil, (perhaps because was synthetic Rottela T6 ?!). The technicians were right, was caused by large crack in oil refill tube, the flex zone just next to oil pan , (it happened before on my last truck to get leak, same flex zone.) I washed motor drove it through rain ,perhaps splashing from left steer tire . I did 2 quick short interval oil changes after this incident to flush the motor, running 8-9mpg ; But still seems weak since they install it, they can't figure out, something with turbo boost; no codes, i can't hear that turbo working like my last truck, and i get white smokes first 1-2 min during regen. It's running ok..., but like a D12 without with VGT, doesn't work properly and i had 4 turbos on this truck last year.
I have some electric problem in harness, i believe from ecm, emission ,boost pressure to turbo actuator because it happened twice over last months, after i washed the truck and engine was pulling like mad for day or two, the way was supposed to then again goes lazy. Washing the motor temporarily fixed the issue.Attached Files:

So are you ok with reman engine? What comes on engine? Please let me know. Thanks.
-
Ok, had few problems but not mechanical , the shop swapped the engine ,it came with injectors installed and they did not upload the new injector trim codes, because comes without ecm . The sludge i had was most likely caused by my thermostat was defective , stuck open kept the coolant /oil temp to low causing condensation.
I passed the 350k miles warranty threshold , i have 405,000 miles on motor , now even if breaks down it paid for itself . If i would have to chose again between buying new 160k$ truck or a 20k truck used as i did , run it 200k miles before i put a reman motor, i would do same, i purchased last truck new and five years high payments are stressful. I prefer less monthly payments, still warranty security and freedom to work as i want park during our Canadian winters.
It came as you see , with injectors installed, oil cooler and a box with all gaskets, you can order the kitt with with turbo if you want.Attached Files:
