$47k ? smart businessmen? )))))))))))))) . Smart o/o would not pay that money for repairs. Any repair over $15k-18k is senseless for o/o.

I don't know any negatives of the ishifts d13s

Driven plenty never had any complaints. They're smooth and smart. Also majority of them I have driven have been 2012-2016 day cabs. Great on fuel

Thank you, seems like they may be a good combo, haven't heard one bad thing about them yet. The only negative I have heard is that it's a Volvo.

That was to swing an engine. It was an ISX 565 HP. And yes a smart businessman will reinvest in his company. The cost of a new truck is 140-170k. Dropping 50 grand is a less than 50% of new. He also gets to keep the same truck he has maintained and very familiar with. He has no need for an egr motor as California is not in his business plan either. So he reinvested inbhis business for a 35% or so cash investment. The engine warranty is 3 yrs/unlimited miles. While base new warranty is 2 yrs/ 250k miles. This is a dealer level install. Has dealer level support and waranty at any Cummins authorized repair shop nation wide. So if you think that was stupid let me throw this at you. Guy comes in with a D16 knock in the engine and smoking. Swears he had a fresh inframe. Gives me a number to the shop that did it. Shop informs me that indeed they rebuilt it out of frame. used rebuild injectors the sent off for rebuild to some guy in Oklahoma. The crank was badbso they found a junkyard crank and swapped it. The original liners and pistons were retained just used new rings. Turns out rings never seated, 4 injectors had cracked tips. All liners were bad. And the best part...the main bearings were installed so the top shell was placed in the cap, starving the mains for oil. All 7. Like I said before, you see a guy with a socket set and a ratchet doesn't make him a mechanic. You want cheap labor and cheap parts, you get what you pay for. Then you are going to pay again to do it right and hope something is salvageable. I am in no way saying you have to go to a dealer for every repair, but you have to vet out shoddy repair shops. Cheap=Cheap any way you look at it. He paid $9000 for what is going to cost him 48,000 now.

I agree with that, guys call me all the time with what someone else can do the job for after I gave them a price, I tell to let them have at it. Many times they call back with the same issue that was never resolved or a set of duals on the side of the road cause that wheel seal job was done wrong. There's a serious balance between saving money and being foolish and cheap. Or guys want to bring me parts used or otherwise and I tell them absolutely no warranty or guarantee on the part you brought me and if it's bad you get to pay me again to replace it.

No problem. I will say in the 2011-2013 models that FedEx has they were having a lot of aftertreatment issues. One was the constant on off cycles due to plugging the egr cooler and eventually dpf issues. The truck would start a regen automatically then either the driver would shut the truck off or idle shut down would. This was a fleet wide problem. The fix was to reprogram to only allow parked regens. FedEx did not want to disable the idle shut down. The new crop of of local/cartage trucks don't have these repetitive issues, in fact I have seen none for the issues described. I don't know what their fuel mileage is but they are a solid built truck. It is going to be worse than an OTR truck due to the constant stop and go. Just make sure you get the correct programming at the start.

What model of truck would be best for my application? We run belly dumps and end dumps and are breaking into flatbed, but the flatbed has sleepers. Any idea on said truck what they weigh in at?

Honestly if the majority is non highway driving you can go Mack. With either an MP7 or the MP8 the 7 is identical to the D11, the 8 is a D13. You can have either with the MDrive which is identical to the Ishift. The big differences are in the druveline and rearends. The Mack top loader rears are solid and a lot better choice than Volvo oem Meritor axles. You can run 2 separate PTOs on either version Mack or Volvo. Also with the deluxe package you get more PTO speeds as well. Just a thought.

Don't want a Mack at all. I want a light daycab. Volvo seems to have less problems with their motors and auto transmissions. We do mostly highway until we turn off into the job site.
