you do not have to touch bolts 1-7 if cam was not removed.

Not yet, I took the family out of town for the weekend we got back last night, but I've ordered a rescue bit. it should come in tomorrow and I'll try that and will let you know the outcome.

Thanks to the rescue bit the broken bolt and broken easy out came out. The rescue bit was able to drill a hole through the broken easy out and I kept moving the drill to the edges till the hole became bigger then used a left 1/2-13 tread bit to cut a new tread in the broken bolt, then I used one of the rocker arm shaft bolt to get the broken bolt out by turning anti clockwise.

Wow it's amazing to see some active recent talk on the d16. I don't want to thread jack but want to ask. Have you ever had a continuing problem that the truck every so often will act like the same injector goes bad over and over? 07 d16 535hp. Just put new injector in about a month ago in cylinder 5 again and now two days ago it was miss firing and blowing white smoke and theieing code for mechanical problem on inj5 again. Kept driving and now it's cleared up again. Cups inj and cam all done 1.5 years ago and had inj 5 replaced under warranty 4 times since now it's out of its 1 year warranty :// could it be a sealing problem? How can I diag, any ideas?

Sorry for the length I just been struggling with this long time.

So a compression test mechanical on that piston alone I can almost guarantee some kind of bad valve seat or burned valve have seen this few time. Poor man compression test is simple quick remove rockets remove injector take a blower with a big rubber tip stick it in and put shop air in the cylinder might move engine a bit but then just hold for a min and try to listen for air leaks when I remove lower should get rush of air if everything is good if not something is wrong with that piston
