I heard the same issue re DME.
DME provides less energy than diesel.
DME has no lubrication properties. Additives will need to be added.
DME requires a retrofit for the current diesel engines.
DME requires special steel fuel tanks similar to Propane tanks.
DME currently has no distribution facilities although the cost is about $10,000 per service station.
DME does not require EGR, DPF but, does require SCR.
DME will add weight to your truck.
currently speculations are the cost of DME is equal to Diesel fuel.
DME will drive the cost of trucks up by 6K-10K.
DME will not be used in over the road trucks. Only max of regional trucks.
DME should be out by 2015/2016.
I agree with making the environment better,but, the costs should come down to allow owner operators/companies to not always have to pay for a better environment. I think there should be some kind of government kick back for trucks which might be cleaner than cars.
