From what I've read, if your truck isn't programmed for manual mode, it still won't let you shift gears with the +/- buttons. I don't know if it's a setting in PTT or something in the ECM to reprogram, though.

 

That is correct, Just adding the shifter in will not do anything. You will need to add the program in the ECM for the correct settings.
These are the settings I have for my shift logic.
