I have 2015 Volvo ,D13 engine, I-shift 12 speed transmission , 2.64 gears. When time comes can I replace my transmission with overdrive 13 speed I-shift (its basically same as 12 speed transmission, it's just has 1st crawler gear, it was designed for construction work so it has more robust internals). If I could do that, do I need to update my engine ECM?
Volvo I-shift 12 replacement with and I-shift 13

you do not really need to do that you have the low gear button on the back side of shifter either way what you are looking to do it's going to be really hard, to be able to change from i shift to manual just need to replace ecm's alone as far as vehicle ecu and abs ecu, just expensive but doable.

Try your low gear on I shift this trans gets used for a lot of logging operations in Europe so it should be more than capable of doing the job

From reading the I shift manual the L button is not a low gear selector, the button is used in emergency problems with transmission. I think its called Limp Home Mode.

first gear on a XE truck with 2.64 rear ratio has always been a problem with the Volvo Mack transmission... The crawling speed is too high with that rear end ratio for very slow maneuvering....... Leading to clutch overheat alarm going off frequently and reduced clutch life if you aren't careful how you drive it..
860 I'm having built with turbo compound and 2.47 rear will have the crawler 13-speed severe Duty iShift transmission..... I think with that fast of a rear it will be a necessity to have a different ratio for 1st gear on normal trucks. -

Your clutch warranty also shrinks to 100k, from standard 300k. I’d rather have warning on the dash sometimes and clutch replaced under warranty.
Mine, 2015 780 with 2.43 rears has standard iShift. I did have warranty repair on it right before 750k.
You really need that warranty...Last edited: May 25, 2019
