I am asking for advice on a problem I have with my 1998 Volvo VNL (Serial# 4VG7DGGH9WN743136) with VED12 Volvo engine.
The problem began with what I believed to be an electrical miss or like I hit a small pothole as I was accelerating. After about a 100 miles the caution light came the dash panel and the truck went into (what I call) a guardian mode where the engine only wants to run at a certain RPM and I think it was about 1600. Finally, the truck was running so poorly I had to pull over and I changed fuel filter. I started it back up it seemed to run better but as I made my way the same chain of events started again but I made it home.
A few days later I drove it on a 25 mile test run with out any trouble but when I got back to the yard I could hear a low RPM miss at around 1100 but after I shut it off and restarted it ran fine. I then brought it to a repair shop about 20 miles away and it ran perfect until the last mile when the caution light came on again and it started missing very bad. The next day when they started it up it ran fine and gave them no problems but suggested we replace TPS on account there where error codes pointing at that. I went up and drove it for about 40 miles and it seemed fixed.
A couple of days later I set out on a 200 mile run and the problems started again missing, caution light on, running in guardian mode. As soon I would shut it off and restart it would run fine for several miles before doing the same thing again. Then on the way home it ran perfect like the problem was solved. Then I finished unloading and went to restart ( it shuts itself off if not ran up on high idle after about five minutes ) and the engine would not turn over by the key switch. Finally, I found one of the ignition fuses blown and replaced it figuring I had the problem solved but now it will crank but not start.
It is obviously an electrical issue but where to begin??
Thanks

it soumds as low fuel pressure ore internal ECM damage (12-90V voltage converter goes bad).
First of all clear all fault codes (password 1111 ore 1234) and try to ride till problem appeare, then read failt codes and post full list here, I can help you find a problem -
First off it does not have an ignition. just say in

You have a short start with the circuit you changed the fuse out of. Past this look for a loose connection. If you get lucky it wont be internal to the cpu, but it sounds like it mmay. start shaking wires making sure they are pulgged in securely. Good luck

my 96 volvo M11 did the same thing minus the fuse part. after hitting a pot hole in kentucky i drove about fifty miles southbound on 65. came up on the inspection station. once they gave me the green light i pulled forward and the truck stall and would not fire up. so i ended up leaving it in gear and cranked it over till i was out of the way. the repair man showed up and could not pull computer codes so he told me it was in the fuel system because that is the only system that the computer does not moniter. so he changed my fuel filter and $195 later, the truck fired up and i was off. well 20 miles down the road the truck went into limp mode and would not turn over 1600rpm (later i found out that the computer derates it to 103hp too). well i drove 200 mile to my local repair shop. he too could not pull codes so he removes the computer and sends it off. the computer tech said the computer was toast. he also said that three injectors were bad and a wiring harness was bad also (he even told me exactly which ones, injectors and wiring harness) not sure how he knew. so the computer tech repaired my computer and reprogrammed it from 330e hp to 480e hp. and i replaced all injector and all of the engine wiring harnesses now the truck is fixed pulls like a champ, it did cost me $8500 tho.
